People in ancient times had always thought that there should be something to represent ‘nothing’. Well, their worries were put to rest in the 5th century A.D., when an Indian mathematician and an astronomy genius, Aryabhata invented the ‘zero’ as a sign to represent nothing. It made addition, subtraction, and a slew of other mathematical operations a lot easier. The existence of the oldest zero is carved on the wall in Gwalior, India.

Some people see the invention of ZERO as a waste. But, giving a pause to their thoughts, without zero there would be no binary system which means NO COMPUTERS.

They were marked out in decimal subdivisions.

In the 6th century BC, an Indian physician named Sushruta wrote a huge medicine book and invented surgery. It was one of the world’s earliest works of this kind. Sushruta is also known as the father of surgery. He described the use of hundreds of medicinal plants and instructions for performing surgical procedures including nose reconstruction and skin transplantation from one to another. The original method of rhinoplasty that involved taking a piece of skin from the forehead to reconstruct the nose, is still in use. Unlike today, nose jobs were done in those times to help people who had been deprived of their noses as punishment of theft or adultery.

When you think of the pioneer of radio communication, Guglielmo Marconi probably pops into your head. That is because he received a Nobel prize in physics in 1909 for his innovative works. But Dr Subhash Chandra Bose presented his discovery of the radio communication wave to the world in 1895. He sent a radio magnetic wave across 75 feet at the town hall in Calcutta. The wave passed through walls, rang a bell, and ignited some gunpowder. Marconi used Bose’s invention, the mercury coherer as a pattern to build his operational 2-way radio. As Bose never patented his findings, he was credited for his discovery only a century later.

The word ‘shampoo’ comes from the Hindi word ‘Champo’, which means to massage or knead. The substance was invented by India in 1762 and was only used for head massages. The first shampoo was made of natural oils and herbs. The British colonizers fell in love with the idea and brought it back with them to England. It took years for the original head massage oil to evolve into shampoo as we know it today. So, the credit goes to Indians for the beauty and cleanliness of your hair..
