1.  14-year-old Indian girl selected in NASA

Making India proud, a 14-year-old girl, from Aurangabad is selected as a panellist in the NASA event. Diksha Shinde, a class 10 student is selected in NASA as an MSI fellowship. Shinde said she read books by Stephen Hawking and then submitted an essay titled, questioning the existence of God. However, her essay got rejected.    Then, after making changes in the article it got rejected again. After that, she sent a researched article on Black Hole in 2020, which was liked and accepted by NASA.

2. iPhone 13 is expected to launch in September

Good news for iPhone lovers, as iPhone 13 is expected to launch in the 3rd week of September. The new series may include a 1TB storage option. Presently, 512GB is the highest storage option available in Apple. Apple is mulling to add an option to record a higher quality ProRes video format. The iPhone 13 Pro is expected to feature a revised Ultra-Wide lens.

3. India’s emerging archer Sakshi Chaudhary won silver at World Youth Championships

Sakshi Chaudhary clinched silver at World Youth Archery Championships in Poland. This girl from Ghaziabad became 1st junior compound archer to reach the final in the category.

Sakshi missed gold by a single point.

4.  UP: Turmeric farming is empowering women in Gorakhpur

Adopting the ‘Aatmanirbhar’ mantra of Prime Minister Modi, women of Tiwran village of Gorakhpur’s Sahjanwa town are earning livelihoods from turmeric farming. The self-help group was started by Sangeeta Rawat with 20 other women who are residents of the same village. Organic turmeric farming has generated a source of income for these women.

5.  Mohali’s girl registers her name in India Book of Records for playing Algoza

Anureet Pal Kaur of Mohali, Punjab became the talk of the town as she registers her name in the India Book of Records for playing Algoza. It is a paired woodwind musical instrument that is similar to a flute. The player needs to blow air into 2 flutes simultaneously. Her mentor is International Bassist Karamjit Singh Bagga.

6.  IAF C-17 aircraft lands with 120 Indian officials from Afghanistan

On August 17, the Indian Air Force’s aircraft (IAF) C-17 landed with 120 Indian officials from Afghanistan. The plane landed in Gujarat’s Jamnagar. Indian Ambassador Rudrendra Tandon was also brought back to India with other Indian staff employed in Kabul informed by the Ministry of External Affairs.

7. Green Card interviews rise by 75%

The immigrant visa backlog has increased to over 5,00,000 over the past year for most family-based immigrants and diversity visa lottery immigrants. Most of the backlog has occurred due to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic. But the good news is The US Department of State, scheduled thousands of more green card interviews in August. This put a small dent in the massive backlog of immigrant visa applications.

8. BRTF constructs 100 feet bailey bridge in Jammu & Kashmir

The border road task force has built a 100-feet bailey bridge at Udhampur, Jammu Kashmir. This bridge at the old Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is an alternative to the damaged Bheron Bridge. It will facilitate unhampered traffic movement for Udhampur’s residents in all weathers.

9. Canada plans to resettle 20000 Afghan refugees

Canada announced its plans to settle more than 20,000 refugees from Afghanistan including women leaders, human rights workers, and journalists. ⠀⠀

The effort is in addition to an earlier initiative to welcome thousands of Afghans who worked for the Canadian government, such as interpreters, embassy workers, and their families, Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino said in a news conference last week. ⠀

10. India gets 6th vaccine, ZYCOV-D

Among the 10 good news, ZYCOV-D is the world’s 1st and India’s indigenously developed DNA-based vaccine for Covid-19. ZYCOV_D to be given emergency use approval by The Drug Controller General for administration in humans including children and adults of the age of 12 years and above.
