Salvaged Shadows- Recycled Metal Design

Every work of art has a place in the artistic tradition of one’s country and the world. Also, every work of art must be original to attract the eye of the viewer. Robin Passi’s Recycled Metal art work is a successful work where elements of design meet the elements that have become obsolete before their time. Mr. Passi has done a commendable job by using metal and reshaping them to unconventional yet beautiful designs. He has thought out things in his own way.

Mr. Passi is trying to remind us how consumerism is making us ignorant of a lot we need to preserve in our lives before it is discarded. He is making us realise how a simple piece of metal could have a design that could tell lots of stories. His work has different elements, as he uses a contrast of metal objects and reflective glass surfaces. He has cut across the conventional borders of disciplines without losing the quest of a classic line. He always looks for diversity in the simplest of things.

Here’s a few question the artist answered.

Ques : What it is all about?

Ans: The show title Salvage Shadows is about giving discarded waste material a new life, a new meaning in form of art installation & design objects.

Ques : What inspired the artist to do ?

Ans: The artist, there is an immediate need to recycle the waste material as many of these materials are polluting the environment. Many of these mundane recycled objects have a beauty of their own which the artist highlighted in giving them a new form and function.

Ques: Since when he is doing it?

Ans: He has been working with recycled material since early 2012.

Robin Passi has been an intern at the Thomas Heatherwick Design Studio. Summer courses on ‘Building a Better Mouse Trap: Introduction to Design’ at Brown University in United States of America.
