The Muslim holy month of Ramadan will begin from May 17. The official announcement was made after the Saudi moon- sighting committee met on Tuesday evening were not able to sight the Ramadan Crescent.  According to reports, UAE government has reduced working hours for the public and private sector.

Well, fasting is one of the five pillars or duties of Islams, and Muslims participate in the fast from the age of 12. One of the most important aspects of Ramadan is Niyyah. It literally means intention. Muslims should not simply abstrain from food, they must achieve the requirement of Niyyah.

How is it celebrated?

During Ramadan, Muslim families wake up, early before the sun rises, and eat a meal called Sohour.  After the sun sets, the fast is broken with a meal called iftar.  Notably, iftar often begins with eating dates and sweets drinks to give fasting a quick energy boost.  Ramadan is considered the most joyful month of the year, and it ends with the greatest celebration of all, the breaking of fast, Eid- al -Fitr.  Muslims all across the world celebrate it with utmost zeal.
