Muhammad Ali meant the world to Indian boxers

India’s boxing champion Vijender Singh mourned on the death of Muhammad Ali and also rued the missed opportunity to meet the legend.

He said, that he had a pleasure of seeing him from close quarters at the 2007 World Champions in Chicago, but he could not meet him and he expressed that it was like seeing God.

Vijender also said that many athletes wanted to copy their idol, but Ali is a sportsman who could not be copied. The boxer also mourned Ali’s death as huge loss to the sport and more so, and to him as well because he won Olympic medal before turning pro just like him.

Moreover, another India boxer — Akhil Kumar — paid an emotional tribute to Ali.
