K-Pop Festival 2014


The Korean Cultural centre this August end organized a Korean music and dance festival called ‘Kpop India 2014’ which came to an end with the announcement of Indian winners. The contestants from Delhi outshined in the final event by winning the K-pop India Star title in both the Song and the Dance categories. Sparsh Bajpai was announced as the Gold winner in the song category and Urban Age Crew was declared as Dancing K-pop Stars.

K-POP is a musical genre originally from South Korea and is characterized by a wide variety of audio-visual elements. It is a modern form of South Korean pop music covering mostly dance-pop, pop ballad, electronic, rock, hip-hop, R&B, etc. K-POP Contest provides a unique platform for all to showcase their talent in Korean singing and dancing.


The winners will now represent India in the globally popular and prestigious K-Pop Festivals and the K-Pop World Festival 2014, which will be taking place in the month of October and Incheon Korea Music Wave 2014, to be held on 17th September in Incheon Metropolitan City, South Korea.


The other winners who won the Silver prizes were:


Aarchna S Kumar from Chennai won Samsung Galaxy S5 along with the Certificate for song & Dancing Devils Crew from Arunachal Pradesh won cash prize of Rs.80,000/- for dance.

Bronze prizes were won by:


Jeet Dasgupta from Mumbai won LG Newest PC along with the Kpop Certificate for song and JB’s Inside Stuff Crew from Chennai won cash prize of Rs.40,000/- for dance.


Further the special jury award was given to: Rebecca Leivon from Manipur got the LG Song Star along with Certificate and Kto Pendrive for song and Undefeated Crew from Delhi received Korean Ceramic Plate, Certificate and Kto Pendrive for dance.


The extravagant event, which was three times bigger than its previous editions was witnessed by live audience of around 3000 people. Apart from the live performances by the contestants, the major highlight of the event was first ever electrifying performance by Kpop sensation, N-Sonic.


Speaking on the occasion, J Heart, the leader of the band, N-Sonic stated, “I am overwhelmed to see the craze for K-pop in India. We are already looking forward to our next visit to India and are more than excited to perform again in front of such a beautiful & rocking audience.”

Mr. Kim Kum-pyoung, the Director of the Korean Cultural Centre stated, “This event truly shows that art & culture has no boundaries and these can be a big contributory factor in strengthening the bond between India and Korea. I am overwhelmed by the enthusiasm shown by young Indians for K-POP 2014. I hope this gets bigger by each passing year.”


Eminent juries who judged the finale comprised of Nitin Mallik of Parikrama fame, Ham Sihoo (Sihoo) and Kwon Jaehwan (J-Heart) from N-Sonic band, Kim Jin Eog, the president of JU entertainment & Kim Kum-pyoung, the Director of the Korean Cultural Centre and Byungsun Lee, the Director of Korean Tourism organization.
