Much confusion exists about ‘e-commerce’, and how to treat it with regard to FDI and taxation. Also, what cannot be denied is that this sector has in a short span of time, made a huge mark, specially in the b2c segment, with players like Flipkart, Snapdeal, Myntra, and foreign players like Amazon.
Realising the importance of not only this sector, but also removing all ambiguities around it, specially if India wants to see increased investments, India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has stated that the Government of India is consulting various state governments, and should come out with a proper definition of ‘e-commerce’ soon.
