Researchers at Westmead Institute of Medical Research in Australia found that eating the right amount of fiber can help prevent disease and disability in old age.

They have claimed that eating a diet rich in fiber, which includes breads, cereals and fruits, can help you live a healthier and longer life. The research appears in the journal Gerontology Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences.

Although one might have expected that the level of sugar consumption could have the greatest impact on successful aging, Gopinath said the panel that examined were older adults whose intake of sweetened carbonated drinks and was quite low.
