7Th India Art Fair takes off on a creative note

It is a visual treat! The 7th edition of India Art Fair has started in the city amidst a lot of fan fare. It was pleasing to see the place exuberating with creative energy with most of the connoisseurs of art being present to admire the effort of organizers and artists alike. This year the art fair is fairly subtle with tasteful collections and installations. The exhibition, which will go on till 1st February at the Capital at NSIC Grounds, Okhla, has some of the most brilliant and astounding art work put together by various artists, art galleries, curators and art institutions.

Seen at the event were Shweta Nanda Bachchan, Suhel Seth, Renuka Chowdhury, AD Singh, Jattin Kochhar, Rakesh Thakore, Shahnaz Husain, Shivani Wazir, amongst others. People were seen admiring the artwork and the artists were warm enough to explain their line of thoughts and themes to the audiences during the opening.

“I think the fair is a great platform to see and show work; very professionally conducted. A great joy for anyone associated with art,” says Dimpy Menon whose contemporary art form in bronze is so enthralling that bit leaves one with the thought of how the artist has managed to create sculptures in a medium like bronze and yet depict the movement, curves and resilience of human forms.

“I think that the Art fair is only seven years old right now but the way this property has evolved, its incredible. It just seemed to have become the heart of creativity at some level. Initially it was just paintings but I have been quite amazed by the installations and 3-d structures that have also come in and I think this has become an opportunity for every participating artist to showcase their work and get recognized and get picked up by various people. So commendable job done by the organizers,” says Harmeet Bajaj a name that need no mention

 

Over these next three days the Art Fair will be a platform to some of the best speakers from the various organizations and backgrounds to present their valuable opinion on topics as diverse as Patronage and Public Space, Asia in the era of Plural Modernities, Private collections-public Domains, writing Art: Conflicts and collaborations, Art History and their Discontents and about the Conservations, Heritage Tourism and cultural Policy. The speakers include people like Pooja Sood, Founding member and Director Khoj International Artist’s Association, Kiran Nadar, Art Collector, Barry Shwabsky, Writer and critic, Jitish Kallat, Artist and Director of Kochi-Muziris Biennale and Deborah Swallow, Professor and Marit rausing Director of The Courtland Institute of Art, London, to name a few.

The 7th India Art Fair has this year, partnered with Yes Bank, Absolut, BMW, JSW, Vogue (CondeNast India magazine) and Panerai, the 1860 established French watch making company.

India Art Fair is founded by Neha Kirpal who launched it in 2008 and is the present Director and is today joined by strategic partners, Sandy Angus, Chairman of global exhibitions group Montgomery Worldwide which has launched any art fairs around the world and Will Ramsay, Founder PULSE Art Fairs and Affordable Art Fairs.

“There are some very outstanding works, rare period pieces and historically important works have been given prominence, which I feel has taken the how to next level. It indeed is a very well organized and brilliantly curated art fair!”Says Vikram Bachhawat of Aakriti Art Gallery, who is a participant in the fair this time.

 

Shivani Wazir, “What a collection of work! Fearless and Vibrant. I had once interviewed Satish Gujral on my Breakfast show with Morning Zee and he said sadly, we Indians do not appreciate visual beauty. After visiting the art fair I can gladly say that’s changed.”

“The response to my work was really encouraging, despite the fact that there were many booths to cover. People shared their time to go through my work in detail. The first day I am sure has set an encouraging tone for the days to come,” says artist Girjesh Kumar Singh, who has displayed some brilliant art work made from construction debris.
