Rishabh Pant’s wicketkeeping career may go in danger after the accident

India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant survives a brutal car accident but puts his career in jeopardize

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Indian cricket star Rishabh Pant is said to be in stable condition after suffering a brutal accident.
  • Multiple injuries were reported when his car hit a central divider, flipped over, and caught fire
  • The wicketkeeper-batsman was alone in the car when it crashed and lost control as he “dozed off”.

Recently, Rishabh Pant suffered a severe car crash in which the Mercedes he was driving in burnt to ashes near Roorkee, Uttarakhand. Pant, who was badly injured and suffered many injuries in the accident managed to escape from his car which caught fire as soon as the accident took place.

It is said that Pant who was driving his luxury sedan was travelling alone when his car collided with the divider on the Delhi-Dehradun highway.

Rishabh Pant will require a very long time to heal and is out of danger according to the hospital, says an official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Currently, according to the latest reports, Rishabh Pant is still undergoing treatment and is kept under observation at Max Hospital in Dehradun.

After the accident, he also got plastic surgery done to remove the abrasions on his skin and reportedly injured his back which will take more than 3 months to heal completely. Also, the most terrible news is that Pant’s right knee is badly injured after the accident for which doctors have confirmed that there is a ligament tear.

This confirmation from the doctors was kind of news to many including BCCI and has raised so many questions about Rishabh Pant’s wicketkeeping career.

“Rishabh has a ligament tear in his right knee, and two cuts on his forehead. He has also hurt his ankle, right wrist, and toe and has suffered abrasion injuries on his back. His condition remains stable as of now, and he has now been shifted to Max Hospital, Dehradun, to undergo MRI scans to ascertain the extent of his injuries and formulate his further course of treatment,” BCCI mentioned in a statement.

“The BCCI is in constant touch with Rishabh’s family while the Medical Team is in close contact with the doctors currently treating Rishabh. The Board will see to it that Rishabh receives the best possible medical care and gets all the support he needs to come out of this traumatic phase,” the statement added.

There have been many rumours and speculations that after full recovery, there is a good chance that Rishabh Pant may not be able to do wicketkeeping for a significant amount of time for obvious reasons, and the team India may have to find other wicketkeeper batters at least for the entirety of this year in the longest format of the game

The 25-year-old cricketer who has been a rising star in the cricket world has suffered an unfortunate fate. However,  the good news is that Pant is out of any sort of danger and but it seems like we won’t be able to see him in the field for wicketkeeping before January 2024.

Prime minister Narendra Modi including many cricketers, celebrities, and fans have expressed their prayers on Twitter for the speedy recovery of the Indian star cricketer. The veteran cricketer Kapil Dev has also reacted to the accident by saying, “You can easily afford a driver.”

Pakistan cricketers have also extended their wishes and prayers to the Indian wicketkeeper-batter.

3 INDIAN WHITE-BALL WICKETKEEPERS WHO CAN REPLACE RISHABH PANT

Rishabh Pant’s performance has been a concern for the management due to his average numbers in white-ball formats.

Pant has scored 865 runs in ODIs, at a mediocre average of 34.60. Not only this, Rishabh has managed to score just 1 century in this format, since debuting in 2018. And also, he failed to make any impact and was able to amass a total of 25 runs in the 2 innings he played in the recently-concluded ODI series against New Zealand. It is being said that Pant looked rusty and unsure about his shots during the matches he played in recent times.

SANJU SAMSON

An IPL stalwart in his 138-match career spanning over 10 years has amassed more than 3,500 runs at a strike rate of over 135. Sanju Samson is best suited as an opener and has opened the batting for India in four T20 Internationals, with a strike rate of more than 165.

Samson has an average of 66 in his short ODI career and scored an unbeaten 86 in the ODI Series against South Africa earlier this year.

Samson scored a blistering 77 off just 42 deliveries against Ireland in June 2022.

ISHAN KISHAN

Ishan Kishan is said to be the perfect replacement for Rishabh Pant in the white-ball setup. The 24-year-old has over 1800 runs at a strike rate of over 140 in the IPL. He has a strike rate of about 130 in T20Is. Also, Kishan amassed a total of 206 runs, striking at well more than 150, earlier this year, in a five-match T20I series against South Africa

Ishan Kishan has an outstanding average of 53 in the ODI format and if we talk about the third ODI against Bangladesh, Kishan scored 210 of 131 deliveries. He earned his double hundred in just 126 balls – the fastest in ODI history and became the only 7th batsman in this format to score a double hundred.

KONA SRIKAR BHARAT

This very bright prospect is a consistent run scorer on the domestic circuit and has gained massive popularity following his performances in IPL 2021.

In the IPL 2021 auction, K S Bharat was picked by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) where he rose to fame scoring nearly 200 runs in 8 matches. Bharat was also picked by the Delhi Capitals in 2022 and but unfortunately, he was not given ample match time.

K S Bharat has great first-class numbers and he is said to be a great investment for the Indian cricket team in the future. Even if his numbers don’t quite do justice to his talent, Bharat has travelled as a reserve player with the senior team on multiple tours.
