Zoya had second thoughts about casting Suhana, Agastya, and Khushi in The Archies

Zoya Akhtar's "The Archies" on Netflix, Dec 7, introduces Bollywood's new talents—Agastya Nanda, Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor—in a fresh take on iconic characters.

“The Archies Unveiled: Bollywood’s Rising Stars Shine in Zoya Akhtar’s Netflix Debut”

Zoya Akhtar, the acclaimed director behind hits like “Dil Dhadakne Do” and “Gully Boy,” is set to unveil her latest cinematic venture, “The Archies.” The buzz surrounding the film is not only due to Zoya’s directorial prowess but also because it serves as the much-anticipated Bollywood debut for a trio of star kids – Agastya Nanda, Suhana Khan, and Khushi Kapoor.

In a recent interview, Zoya candidly shared her initial reservations about casting these young talents, who happen to be the children of Bollywood stalwarts Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Boney Kapoor, and the late Sridevi, as well as the grandson of the legendary Amitabh Bachchan. Despite acknowledging the thought that crossed her mind, Zoya emphasized the importance of merit over lineage.

“The thought did occur to me, but then I thought I should not think like that because they are the best for the part, and I should do that, and if someone has to do something, they will do it. If people like their work, they will like it. But when I looked at them and the auditions, they looked promising for the three roles,” she explained in an interview with India Today.

Zoya further elaborated on the decision, stating, “It would be very weird if I did not cast them. It is weird to not cast someone because they are not famous, but it is equally weird to not cast someone because their parents are famous. I mean, you have to just go with merit. Of course, I thought about it, but you cannot deny that they are the best for the roles. I care about my film at the end of the day.”

“The Archies” promises a fresh take on the beloved comic series, with Agastya Nanda portraying the charming and talented Archie Andrews, Suhana Khan as the glamorous Veronica Lodge, and Khushi Kapoor stepping into the shoes of the iconic Betty Cooper. Dot will play Ethel Muggs, Mihir Ahuja will bring Jughead Jones to life, Vedang Raina will showcase Reggie Mantle, and Yuvraj Menda will portray Dilton Doiley.

The film is set to make its debut on Netflix on December 7, bringing a new generation of talent into the limelight and adding a modern twist to the timeless “Archie” comics. As audiences eagerly await the release, Zoya Akhtar’s decision to cast based on merit rather than fame continues to spark discussions about the evolving landscape of Bollywood and the industry’s approach to showcasing emerging talent.
