“Mixing the melody and good lyrics is what I do”, tells SADU
“Aankhon se door na ho, dil se utar jayega, waqt ka kya hai, guzarta hai guzar jayega”, that is how we started talking with SADU. SADU was among the few voices of the 90s popular band ‘Aryans’. He is a vocalist, lyricist, composer who believes in taking forward the legacy of hummable melodies. He has earlier worked on amazing melodies like that of Aankhon Mein Tera Hi Chehra, Dekha Hai Teri Aankhon Ko and Yeh Hawa Kehti Hai Kya. His previous work with ‘The Aryans’ appeared to be winners of many MTV and Channel V awards. Now, his recent release, Aankho Se Door Na Ho is winning all the hearts and why not? It is a melody mixed with the lyrics of none other than Ahmed Faraz.
SADU tells us that he is trained in Hindustani classical music vocals & western classical piano. After the Aryans, he released his solo Hindi-rock singles ‘Mohabbat Mein’ and ‘Haseen Gunaah’ earlier which went rolling and now he has come up with Ankhon se Door Na Ho.
Telling about his early life, he says, “I used to live in Itarsi a small town in Madhya Pradesh, my father gifted me a small Casio synthesiser of two octaves in 1989 which he got from Germany. I was invited to play in the local orchestra, as I was merely 19 had the responsibility to arrange film songs of the late ’50s and ’60s which were composed and sung by legends like Talat Mahmood, Hemant Kumar, Naushad, Salil Chowdhury to name few and to direct these songs with the local singers. The first-ever live show of my life had 36 great songs with the best of the orchestration. These kinds of programmes carried on for a couple of years until one day the singer of a very famous Orchestra Five Star came searching for me to the defence campus. I was introduced as a new upcoming live keyboard player in the district.”

Telling about how he eventually entered the space of music and picked it as a full-time career he said, “By that time I started to sing ghazals of Ghulam Ali, Mehdi Hassan, Hariharan & Jagjit Singh. In 1992, after completing my M.Sc in Chemistry, I learnt western classical in piano from Mr. V.C. Verghese from Kerala. By the time the film songs also started touching the lowest standards hence had no option either. I was in my college when the song ‘Gora Rang Ka Zamana’ was released by Ali Haider, that was the instant I knew what I had to do in life. I was so impressed by him that I started composing, writing and singing by myself. I, later on, moved to Bombay and then Aryans happened.” SADU tells that now he owns a pharmaceutical company and a music company “Sadu Music” along with a film production house Seventh Angle Productions.
Talking about his style and work, he exclaims, “My style and USP is a simple melody and good lyrics and is what I personally believe in, and relevancy in the music, of course, depends on the trend of music arrangement and sound, so whatever is ear-pleasing/ soothing is my music I do not want to classify it to any genre. There is a track called ‘Teri Hi Yaadon Mein’ composed, written and sung by me in the album ‘Dekha Hai Teri Ankhon Ko’ which I love performing it’s a haunting song, and of course, the latest track Ankh Se Door Na Ho is my personal favourite.”
Telling about his inspiration, SADU tells that his inspiration for life comes from Martin Luther King Junior and Steve Jobs while in music, legendary Indian Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Yesudas and Music Directors like Madan Mohan, Salil Chowdhury, Ilayraja, RD & SD Burman, and Roshan have always impressed him. Also, he says, “I was hooked up to a few western artists as well like Queen, The Beatles, Eagles, Bryan Adams, Boney M, ABBA, George Michael and of course Michael Jackson.”
When asked about his upcoming projects, he says that after Ankh Se Door Na Ho, he has got another pop-ghazal with classical and western fusion to be released in November and a few rocks, romantic tracks lined up for early 2021.
