Raj Kundra, The King Of Controversies

Business tycoon Raj Kundra is not in the news for the first time for the wrong reasons. Let’s a look at some of Raj Kundra’s past controversies.


Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra was arrested by Mumbai Police on July 19, 2021, in connection with an adult film racket case. Kundra is accused of allegedly producing and broadcasting pornographic films online.

The crime branch filed a case against Kundra in February about the creation of pornography movies and publishing them through some apps. In a press statement released by Mumbai Police they said, “After investigation, we have arrested Raj Kundra in the case as he appears to be the key conspirator of this. We have sufficient evidence regarding the case.”

 However, this isn’t the first time the business tycoon Raj Kundra has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Let’s a look at some of Raj Kundra’s past controversies:

1.Betting scandal

Raj Kundra had landed himself in a betting and match-fixing row in 2013 during IPL. Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra owned the Rajasthan Royals team in the Indian Premier League.

Kundra was allegedly involved with 7 bookies and placed bets during IPL. In 2015, Kundra was banned for life from all cricket activities.

Later in 2018, Kundra moved to honourable the Supreme Court after Delhi Police gave him a clean chit. Rajasthan Royals earned its place back in the tournament after being suspended for 2 years. However, Raj and Shilpa ended their association with the cricketing league.

2.Bitcoin Scam

In 2018, Kundra was allegedly involved in a Bitcoin scam. The ED questioned him for allegedly promoting an illegal scam to invest money in Bitcoin. Reports say around Rs 2000 crores were recovered after agencies came down heavily on this racket.

3.Money laundering case

In 2019, Raj Kundra was questioned by ED in a real estate case involving Dawood Ibrahim‘s aide, Iqbal Mirchi. He was quizzed for 9 hours for dealing with real estate agent Ranjeet Bindra.

Ranjeet Bindra, a close associate of Kundra, was allegedly working on the directions of Iqbal Mirchi and played a vital role in negotiating property deals for Mirchi.

4.Allegedly cheated textile company

In the year 2017, a textile unit owner accused Kundra of cheating them of Rs 24 lakh. The textile company named Malotia Textiles said that the money was collected by the couple, in the name of the particular company but was never received by them. Following this, the police had filed a complaint against Raj Kundra.

5.Ugly spat with ex-wife

It was only recently, Raj Kundra opened up about his first marriage with his then-wife Kavita. Kundra revealed that his ex-wife had an extra-marital affair with his sister’s husband Vansh. He said that his mother caught Kavita and his sister’s husband red-handed, in compromising situations many times. His statement came after his ex-wife Kavita, blamed Shilpa Shetty for breaking up their marriage.

6.Poonam Pandey’s criminal case

Earlier Poonam Pandey had filed a criminal case against the businessman. She claimed that Raj Kundra’s company managed her app and continued to post her pictures and videos even after she terminated the contract.

In an interview given to the media, Poonam broke her silence and said, “The only thing I will add is that I have filed a police complaint in 2019, against Raj Kundra, and subsequently registered a case at the Honourable Bombay High Court against him for fraud and theft. His matter is sub judice hence I would prefer to limit my statements”.

In the recent pornography case, Raj Kundra has denied any wrongdoing and has sought anticipatory bail.
