A Hindi Biopic About ‘Sant Tukaram’ Bhasha was Released Amid a Language Dispute

‘Bhasha’ Brings Sant Tukaram’s Universal Message to the Masses Beyond Linguistic Boundaries

Sant Tukaram’s Life Brought to Screen in Hindi Amid Heated Language Debates

A movie about the revered Marathi poet and saint Sant Tukaram is making waves right now not only because of its subject matter but also because of the language it used. This is at a time when language-related disputes are roiling throughout India especially in Maharashtra. Aditya Om is the director of this Hindi-language biopic Bhasha which will be released on July 18 throughout India including all Maharashtra cities.

It is ironic that the film comes at a time when linguistic politics and regional pride are making significant news. Bhasha is boldly asserting however that language should bring people together rather than drive them apart.

Distinguished Actors and Artists Attended the Grand Launch in Delhi

At the Big Odeon Multiplex in New Delhi a number of well-known figures from the theater, film and literary industries attended the film’s screening. This person joined Director Aditya Om.

  • In the lead role of Sant Tukaram is the celebrated Marathi actor Subodh Bhave.
  • The lead actor is Sheena Chauhan.
  • Sheesher Sharma, theater veteran Arvind Gaur and Shiva Suryavanshi.

The national buzz surrounding this unique yet timely film was reflected in their collective presence.

Aditya Om’s Goals and Challenges

Director Aditya Om spoke candidly about the project’s emotional and spiritual commitment to the media. For years I have wanted to share the story of Sant Tukaram. When I decided to make it in Hindi I encountered threats, traveled throughout Maharashtra, read his poetry and spoke with writers. However I did not give up. When Subodh Bhave joined the team I knew I had the right people to make it happen, he remarked.

In addition to demonstrating his enthusiasm his comments also brought to light the dangers of addressing delicate cultural subjects in the divisive climate of today.

The Film is a Message to the Language Dividers According to Subodh Bhave

Sant Tukaram is portrayed with great sincerity by actor Subodh Bhave, a titan of the Marathi film industry who specializes in biographical roles. He described his preparation for the role as follows: To learn about Tukaram’s life and devotion I read spiritual texts, studied his poetry and even met his followers. This position is a responsibility rather than a performance.

This film is a slap on those who incite conflict in the name of language, Bhave added making a strong statement. Tukaram’s lessons applied to everyone. Filming a Marathi saint in Hindi demonstrates that harmony and love are more than just words.

On Dealing with Legends Sheena Chauhan

Working on Bhasha was a gift according to actress Sheena Chauhan who is relatively new to the business. I’ve done nine films so far but it was a life-changing experience to share the screen with Subodh Bhave in a film this deep, she said. The film was shot in a picturesque village in Kolhapur she added and she commended Subodh and Aditya for welcoming the crew with warm hospitality and delectable Marathi food.

A Cultural Statement That Goes Beyond a Movie

Bhasha which was produced by Purushottam Films and Curzon Films is a cultural statement as well as a biopic. It attempts to demonstrate that language like faith is meant to bring people together rather than to drive them apart. An act of national unity is being promoted by the decision to publish a Marathi saints story in Hindi.

Amidst the nation’s identity and division issues Bhasha is a film that encourages viewers to look beyond language and toward spirituality, love and legacy.
