The Central Theme of Ras, Rasoi, and Rishtey
Bringing Local Food to the Forefront
Kunal Kapur revealed that MasterChef Season 9 will place a strong emphasis on local flavours and traditional culinary stories. He explained that the makers aim to highlight India’s regional food heritage and present it on a national platform. By focusing on Ras (flavour), Rasoi (kitchen), and Rishtey (relationships), the show intends to go beyond just cooking and celebrate the emotional connection people share with food.
Simplicity with a Layer of Complexity
While discussing the structure of the competition, Kunal Kapur explained that the challenges this season have been designed to appear simple and relatable at first glance. However, the real test lies in the details. He shared that the complexity comes from innovative twists, strict time limits, and the introduction of special ingredients that challenge contestants to rethink familiar dishes. This approach ensures that the tasks remain engaging for both participants and viewers while staying rooted in everyday Indian cooking.

Everyday Dishes with Unexpected Twists
Kunal Kapur noted that one of the key strengths of MasterChef Season 9 is how closely the challenges mirror home cooking. Viewers will find themselves connecting instantly with the dishes and themes. Yet, the added constraints—be it unusual ingredients or tight timelines—transform these familiar recipes into high-pressure culinary tests. According to him, this balance makes the season both emotionally engaging and technically demanding.
Relationships as the True Seasoning
Emphasising the emotional depth of the show, Kunal Kapur stated that relationships will be the true seasoning of MasterChef Season 9. He highlighted that food in India is deeply tied to memories, families, and shared experiences. This season aims to showcase how cooking builds bonds, preserves traditions, and tells personal stories, making the competition more heartfelt than ever before.
Promo, Tagline, and Grand Premiere Details
The makers recently unveiled the official promo of MasterChef Season 9 with the powerful tagline, “Desh Front Foot Par Chal Raha Hai” (The country is moving forward confidently). Sharing the promo on Instagram, they wrote, “Jab desh itna aage badh raha hai toh desh ka swaad peeche kyu rahe” (When the country is moving forward, why should its taste be left behind?).
They further announced, “MasterChef India duniya ko parosne har plate par India. Shuru ho raha hai 5 January, Mon-Fri raat 9 baje, sirf Sony Entertainment Television aur Sony LIV par.” The show is set to premiere on January 5 and will air Monday to Friday at 9 PM on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV.
