Bollywood Diva Deepika Padukone is all geared up for her upcoming film Chhapaak. The film is slated to release in January 2020. Recently, she had shared her look from the film which took the internet by storm. Deepika will be playing the character of Malti in the film. The film is directed by Meghana Gulzar. In this film, Deepika Padukone’s character is inspired by Laxmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor. Laxmi was born in Delhi. She belongs to a middle class and she won a lot hearts with her courageous journey after she was attacked by acid.
Let us take a look at the courageous journey of Laxmi
Laxmi was just 15 years old when a man twice of her age threw acid on her face for rejecting his proposals. She was her on way to music class when this incident took place. The terrible incident led her face and other body parts disfigured. In a span of 10 years, she went through a lot of surgeries which took a toll on her mental health. But the courageous didn’t give up. With her sheer determination she managed to stand back on her feet.
Story of Fighting back
Laxmi took a stand and managed to put her culprit behind the bar. She didn’t stop there. She went on to get 27,000 signatures on a petition citing to curb the acid sales and filed a PIL seeking new law or amendment in the present law which deals with these offences, besides asking to give compensation. Finally, in 2013 Laxmi’s struggle paid off after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of her plea and created a fresh set of restrictions on the sale of acid.
What all accolades she has earned?
Laxmi Agarwal is known for her courage and determination. In the year 2014, Laxmi received International Woman of Courage award from Michelle Obama, US then first lady and she was also named NDTV Indian of the year. In the same year, she also founded an NGO, Chhanv Foundation which aims to help the acid attack survivors.
The film is slated to release in 2020 and we are not able to keep clam.
