Landslide hits Uttarakhand camp, 1 dead, 4 feared trapped. SDRF and police in rescue operation amid challenges.
A tragic incident unfolded in Uttarakhand’s Pauri district as heavy rainfall triggered a catastrophic landslide, striking the Night Life Paradise Camp located in the Jogiana village of Mohanchatti. The calamity was brought to the attention of the Police Control Room by a local caller, reporting that the camp had been engulfed by debris following the torrential downpour.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) swiftly responded to the distress call, revealing that screams were heard emanating from the camp, raising concerns that four individuals might be trapped under the rubble. Amid the chaotic scene, a 10-year-old girl was successfully rescued from the camp, but tragically, the body of one person was recovered, underscoring the severity of the situation.
The victims were identified as residents of Kurukshetra in Haryana, highlighting the far-reaching impact of the tragedy. However, the rescue operation encountered formidable challenges due to the persistent heavy rains and obstructed pathways caused by debris. Collaboratively with the local police, the SDRF initiated search and rescue operations under the leadership of District Magistrate Pauri Ashish Kumar Chauhan and SSP Pauri Shweta Choubey.

Acknowledging the complexities of the mission, additional reinforcement was summoned from the SDRF headquarters. A specialized 15-member team, armed with cutting-edge search equipment including thermal imaging cameras and victim locating devices, was promptly dispatched to the site. The objective of this intensified endeavor is to locate and rescue the potentially trapped individuals, exemplifying the dedication and determination to mitigate the impact of this unfortunate incident.
