Trump Blasts UN Over ‘Sinister’ Glitches During Visit, Claims Triple Sabotage and Calls for Immediate Probe
Donald Trump has accused the United Nations of orchestrating a series of “sinister” technical glitches during his visit, calling the events a “triple sabotage.” The US President took to Truth Social on Thursday to outline what he described as three major failures that occurred while he addressed world leaders at the UN General Assembly. Trump also confirmed that the Secret Service is involved in investigating the incidents.
In his post, Trump first detailed an escalator malfunction that nearly caused a dangerous fall for him and First Lady Melania Trump. “First, the escalator going up to the Main Speaking Floor came to a screeching halt. It stopped on a dime. It’s amazing that Melania and I didn’t fall forward onto the sharp edges of these steel steps, face first,” he wrote. Trump claimed the stoppage was deliberate, citing a report from The London Times which mentioned UN staff joking about turning off the escalator. “The people who did it should be arrested!” he added.
The second alleged sabotage involved a teleprompter failure as Trump began his speech. “As I stood before a Television crowd of millions of people all over the World, and important Leaders in the Hall, my teleprompter didn’t work. It was stone cold dark,” Trump said. Despite the blackout, he continued delivering his remarks for about 15 minutes before the teleprompter resumed operation. Trump noted that the speech received positive feedback, attributing it to his ability to handle the unexpected situation.
Trump also claimed the sound system in the General Assembly hall malfunctioned, making it impossible for attendees, including world leaders, to hear his address. “After making the Speech, I was told that the sound was completely off in the Auditorium where the Speech was made, that World Leaders, unless they used the interpreters’ earpieces, couldn’t hear a thing,” he wrote. Even Melania Trump, seated in the front row, was reportedly unable to hear him.
Calling these incidents “not a coincidence,” Trump described the escalator, teleprompter, and sound system failures as a coordinated effort to sabotage his UN appearance. “This wasn’t a coincidence, this was triple sabotage at the UN. They ought to be ashamed of themselves. I’m sending a copy of this letter to the Secretary General, and I demand an immediate investigation,” he wrote. Trump also emphasized the importance of preserving all security footage, especially recordings involving the escalator’s emergency stop button.
The escalator incident was captured live on camera and observed by visiting world leaders, drawing global attention. The abrupt halt forced Melania Trump to carefully ascend the stalled escalator, with the President following close behind. During his bilateral meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Trump referenced both the escalator and teleprompter incidents, calling the visit “a little more exciting” because of the malfunctions.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt condemned the potential sabotage, stating on X that anyone at the UN who intentionally stopped the escalator should be “fired and investigated immediately.” She shared a screenshot from The Times reporting that UN staff had joked about disabling escalators and elevators upon Trump’s arrival.

These unusual incidents during the high-profile visit have drawn widespread attention and raised questions about UN protocols and security measures. Trump’s insistence on a formal investigation underscores his concern over what he perceives as intentional disruptions. The involvement of the Secret Service adds an official layer to the scrutiny of these “sinister” glitches.
Trump’s post has since become a focal point of discussions regarding UN operations, technical failures, and political theatrics, with supporters echoing his claims of deliberate interference and critics questioning the severity of the events.
