The editorial specifically criticized the imposition of a 40% export duty on onions and the resulting protests by farmers in Nashik, Ahmednagar, and Pune districts of Maharashtra, renowned for onion cultivation. Despite recent space successes like Chandrayaan-3’s Moon landing, and ISRO’s plans for Sun, Venus, and Gaganyaan missions, the Shiv Sena emphasized the immediate need to address domestic concerns.
