Manipur Issue: Shah Seeks Cooperation, PM’s Response Demanded, Deadlock Continues


Home Minister Amit Shah shared a letter on social media, expressing the government’s readiness to discuss the Manipur issue and seeking cooperation from all parties. He emphasized Manipur’s importance as a border state with rich cultural heritage. The BJP’s rule had brought peace and development, but recent incidents of violence arose due to court decisions, particularly regarding the inclusion of the dominant Meiteis in the scheduled tribe list.

Support Manipur: Unity in Parliament:

The Minister urged all parties to rise above politics and support Manipur during this difficult time. The government was prepared to give a statement on Manipur in both Houses, followed by a discussion, but they sought cooperation from all parties for the Parliament to function effectively.

Opposition Demands PM’s Response:

The opposition demanded Prime Minister Modi’s statement on the issue before any debate could proceed. While PM Modi condemned the assaults on two women, he did not directly address the larger violence.

Deadlock Amid Outrage:

The ongoing deadlock in both houses continued as over 150 people died, hundreds were injured, and thousands sought refuge in relief camps in Manipur. An incident where two women from the Kuki-Zomi community were assaulted triggered nationwide outrage, intensifying the opposition’s call for the removal of Manipur CM N Biren Singh.
