Rajasthan Budget: CM Ashok Gehlot Speech flares rage in Assembly

Rajasthan Budget: CM Ashok Gehlot Read previous year’s speech, BJP claimed that the budget was leaked

The Rajasthan budget speech for 2023–24 was presented on Friday, however, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot erroneously read portions of the speech from the prior year. Asserting that the budget had been leaked, the opposition BJP called the act an “insult to democracy.”

Mahesh Joshi, the chief whip for the Congress, informed Gehlot after noticing the mistake.

Before the mistake was noticed, Gehlot made a number of announcements during his brief speech on the budget, such as raising the number of MGNREGS annual person days from 100 to 125. Gehlot had previously issued a similar announcement when he delivered the 2022–23 budget.

Gehlot later acknowledged during his statement before the Assembly that he had mistakenly included one more page from the previous budget. He had been informed of the mistake by the officer’s gallery.

“The BJP merely wants to demonstrate that it opposes Rajasthan’s growth and advancement. They are not going to spare the budget from their petty politics, as seen by their fake claim that the budget was leaked. The BJP is the only challenge in “Bachat, Rahat, Badhat,” “He used Hindi to tweet. This year’s state budget has the slogan “Bachat, Rahat, Badhat” (saving, relief, and progress).

The incident occured when the Gehlot-led government is under criticism because this is his final budget before the state holds elections later this year. Gehlot, who is also in charge of finance, presented the budget under the heading “Bachat, Rahat, Badhat” (saving, relief and progress).

Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, a member of the Union Cabinet and representative for Jodhpur, made fun of the Chief Minister by saying he campaigned for a new budget but read out the old one.

“Gehlot ji is still very careless; he endorsed the current budget while reading the previous one!

“The issue is how a chief minister can appear before the Assembly without having read the budget proposal and do so carelessly. This makes it clear how he is managing the state. After the incident, former chief minister Vasundhara Raje said, “They talked about Suraj (excellent governance), but this is Kuraj (poor governance).

Assembly Speaker CP Joshi called a break of the House for 30 minutes after the BJP stoked up a commotion by asking that the budget be presented on a different day.

Joshi once again adjourned the Assembly for 15 minutes after failing in his attempts to persuade the Opposition to permit proceedings after the “unfortunate, compassionate error” when the House proceedings resumed. The BJP continued to insist that the budget be delayed.

The Assembly’s session resumed following the second adjournment, and the chief minister apologized for the earlier error before beginning his budget speech.

The Old Pension Scheme (OPS) was put into effect for employees hired after January 1, 2004, which was the second most significant announcement. Gehlot also announced an increase in the number of man-days under MGNREGS from 100 to 125 days, which would have cost the state exchequer Rs 750 crore. Agriculture received special attention as well; the CM presented its budget separately and highlighted 11 areas within the industry that would be tackled in “mission mode.”

Gehlot announced mobile phones for women who are the heads of the 1.33 crore homes covered under the Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi Yojana, among other populist programs. The government would pay the annual cost of Rs 2,500 crore for these smartphones’ three-year internet connectivity. However, the program has not yet given any mobile phones.
