Operation Sindoor Diplomacy Takes Off Today as India Deploys Seven Multi-Party Delegations to 32 Nations, Signaling a United Global Front Against Terrorism

Operation Sindoor Diplomacy, in a first-ever effort, is kicked off today as one of the major outreach efforts made by the Indian Parliament and government officials in recent history. This operation sends out seven multi-party delegations to 32 foreign capitals to convey a common and unambiguous message to the world against terrorism that has, especially, gained currency after its recent military actions in India following the terror attacks.

Two of the delegations have, by now, already left. First, as guided by Janata Dal (United) MP Sanjay Jha, the delegation is progressing through Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia. It has included MPs across the political spectrum: BJP, AITC, CPI(M), along with big guns Salman Khurshid and former ambassador Mohan Kumar. The second delegation is actually headed by Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde himself and has gone on a visit to the UAE, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. This group also carries members from the BJP, IUML, BJD, and diplomats like Ambassador Sujan Chinoy.

Before being dispatched, there was an elaborative briefing by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on the alleged actions of Pakistan behind recent acts of terror on Indian soil and reiterated India’s intent to bring all perpetrators and their masterminds to justice. Reflecting the sentiments just mentioned, MP Sanjay Jha said: “Our message to world leaders will be that India has decided: ‘enough is enough’. Pakistan has repeatedly been tasked to investigate terror activities but has consistently failed to act.”

Shrikant Shinde added that Pakistan would be confronted with compelling evidence linking it to terrorism not just in India but across the globe, strengthening India’s case internationally.

Apart from the two delegations already mentioned, five other delegations will be visiting different parts of the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, and Africa. BJP’s Baijanta Jay Panda will head the delegation to Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Algeria. Meanwhile, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad is heading a delegation that is visiting France, Italy, Denmark, the UK, Belgium, and Germany. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor will go to Guyana, Panama, Colombia, Brazil, and the USA. DMK’s Kanimozhi’s delegation will visit Russia, Slovenia, Greece, Latvia, and Spain, and finally, NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule’s team will visit Qatar, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Egypt.

All in all, 51 MPs of various parties, along with diplomats and former ambassadors, will engage with government officials, parliamentarians, think tanks, and media in these countries to showcase India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism. Their unity has several interpretations as part of the broader diplomatic strategy adopted by the Indian government to rally international support after Operation Sindoor, which included the precision straddling of nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The operation was instituted after a calamitous terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 lives were lost in April. Thereafter followed a day or two of military confrontations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors before the ceasefire was instituted.

With respect to Operation Sindoor Diplomacy, India wants to inform the whole world in loud and clear fashion: that terrorism shall not be tolerated and must therefore unify to work against terror networks and their state sponsors. The historic diplomatic outreach is a testimony to India’s resolve and sends a strong signal to Pakistan and the world that India is prepared to take strong steps in order to protect its citizens and sovereignty.

With all these delegations now embarking on their missions, close international attention will be paid to this momentous juncture in India’s diplomatic and security policy – marked by unity, determination, and steadfast commitment to peace and justice.
