Operation Sindoor: Israel Supports India’s Right to Self-Defence; Turkey Expresses Concern and Stands in Solidarity With Pakistan

Tensions have built up even further in South Asia after India conducted precise strikes under Operation Sindoor. Again, the international community responded vigorously. India targeted nine terror camps across Pakistan after Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in what many believed to be retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack. Global reactions came in quick succession. Among the first was unconditional Israeli support for India’s self-determination against terrorism.

Israeli Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, backed his assessment on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Israel supports India’s right to self-defense. Terrorists should know there’s no place to hide from their heinous crimes against the innocent.” This reaffirmed the deepening strategic and security ties between the two nations when it comes to cross-border terrorism.

The Indian Air Force late Tuesday night executed the precise strike on nine phone-identified terror infrastructure installations. Indian officials described the operation in the media as relatively “measured and non-escalatory”, without any involvement of the Pakistani military bases, reflecting India’s intent to dismantle terrorism without a more significant military conflict. Operation Sindoor is viewed as a fresh baptism response from the people of India to the gruesome act of terror in Pahalgam-26 innocent lives lost and a shaking incident witnessed by the entire nation that heralded a stern military response.

While India stood firm on its side, Turkey chose a different approach. Turkish foreign minister Hakan Fidan spoke to Pakistan’s counterpart Ishaq Dar to discuss developments on the situation. He defined India’s action as “unprovoked aggression,” denounced by Turkey as a serious concern over deteriorating regional stability. According to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, Turkey not only expressed solidarity with Pakistan but also agreed to maintain close coordination on regional developments.

These differences in the international reaction do highlight further complex geopolitical alignments in South Asia. In this case too, strong and loud support from countries like Israel has enabled India to assert itself even further against nations that view terrorism as a common threat. On the other hand, countries like Turkey are fastening bonds with Pakistan, filling with much justification the loopholes caused by raising voices for diplomatic solidarity, mainly distressed at the prospect of escalation.

Thus, Operation Sindoor within India sends out a formidable message regarding cross-border terrorism-reluctant yet decisive action or retaliatory force with regards to the right to act as such. And the international and regional responses portray how delicately balanced the issue of terrorism and maintaining peace in the subcontinent through military action and international play will be.
