Explosions near Iran’s Fordow nuclear site during Israeli strikes triggered a 2.5-magnitude earthquake, escalating the ongoing conflict.
Explosions at Iran’s Fordow Nuclear Site Amid Israeli Strikes Trigger Earthquake and Escalate Conflict
The Iranian-Israeli duel has been on the rise, and the final on early Monday was in loud explosions around the vicinity of Iran’s Fordow nuclear site, sending shock waves across the region and raising minor earthquakes before the goosebumps of increased fear of full-scale confrontation.
The blasts, occurring just about 20 km from the holy city of Qom, were sufficiently powerful to leave a record of 2.5 on the Richter scale. The continued missile exchange continued with the last bang- the fourth straight night of fighting since the war eruption on June 13, according to Iran International English. Video footage from the area shows massive explosions resonating through the landscape neighboring one of the most sensitive and secure nuclear facilities in Iran-the Fordow enrichment facility.

The health department in Iran confirmed that so far, the Israeli air strikes had taken at least 224 lives since the fighting broke out. Among the last recent casualties were three top-ranking officials of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), indicating the precision and depth of Israel’s military activities.
In an important turn, Rafael Grossi of the UN atomic agency confirmed that Iran had notified the IAEA regarding possible Israeli strikes at Fordow’s nuclear site on the opening day of the conflict. The Wall Street Journal further reported that there were Israeli attacks on Iran’s Natanz enrichment site and the Isfahan Nuclear Facility and Uranium Conversion Center previously. Thus, this makes Israel the first country to strike all three of Iran’s main nuclear facilities — Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow — during one conflict.
Furthermore, Israeli Kan News released additional satellite images showing extensive structural damage at the Natanz site, particularly around the power supply infrastructure. This wave of Israeli air strikes appears to be aimed at systematically weakening Iran’s nuclear capabilities, sending out a bold message of deterrence.
Iran reacted violently as never before: an estimated barrage of missiles numbering somewhere in the region of 100 was launched into Israeli territory, with Haifa and Tel Aviv being prime targets. Al Arabiya stated that this was the fiercest assault the Iranians had unleashed since the war began. Several missiles managed to evade Israel’s air defense systems, but not all did, setting large parts of Haifa ablaze and reportedly injuring four civilians as a result of the missile impact.

In a further twist, Iranian ballistic missiles also reportedly hit the Haifa refinery, which means that Iran now intends to attack vital facilities in retaliation over strikes against its nuclear program.
All these missiles continue to light up the skies above the two nations and have created much-more intense civilian casualties. The military conflict reached its most dangerous point, raising serious concerns over furthering regional instability and the risk of a broader war involving other nations.
If neither party relented and with direct hits on nuclear facilities accompanied by retaliatory bombardments across cities, this may well be a conflict that alters the strategic landscape of the Middle East within years.
