G20 Summit Calendar 2023: Know the complete scheduled events under India’s Presidency


G20 Summit Calendar 2023:- G20 or Group of Twenty, is an international forum consisting of 19 countries and the European Union. The members of G20 represent about 80% of the world’s economic output along with two-thirds of its population. It was established with the aim to promote international financial stability and sustainable economic growth 1999.

The international forum G20 is also focused on addressing major economic challenges faced by its member nations, including issues related to promoting international economic cooperation and finance, trade, and global economic growth.

The G20 holds annual summits where leaders from all member nations meet to discuss various global economic issues and make decisions on actions and policies. The host country for the summit rotates among the member nations each year and currently, India is holding the presidency of the ongoing G20.

The G20 member nations are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Also, in addition to an annual summit, the mega event also holds meetings throughout the year at multiple levels, including finance ministers and central bank governors, sherpas (representatives of the leaders), and working groups on specific topics.

WHAT IS SHERPA TRACK?

It is a G20 process in which high-level government officials, known as Sherpas, from each member nation, work together to prepare for the G20 summit. During India’s presidency, there are 13 Working Groups and 2 Initiatives to discuss various priorities and offer recommendations for the summit.

The Sherpa Track aims to inform leaders’ discussions and decisions at the summit and also focuses on several important issues, like anti-corruption, agriculture, digital economy, culture, development, education, employment, health, disaster risk reduction, environment along with energy transitions, climate sustainability, trade, and investment.

WHAT IS THE FINANCIAL TRACK?

It addresses global macroeconomic cases and matters via meetings involving finance ministers, their deputies, central bank governors, and various other working groups. The G20 Finance Track focuses on multiple important issues, such as International Financial Architecture (IFA), Framework Working Group (FWG), Sustainable Finance Working Group (SFWG), Infrastructure Working Group (IWG), Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI), along with International Taxation agenda, Joint Finance and Health Task Force, Financial Sector issues.
