A dramatic incident took place in East Delhi’s Preet Vihar on Monday evening when a brand-new Mahindra Thar crashed through the glass wall of a showroom just minutes after being purchased. The shocking event quickly went viral on social media with multiple videos capturing the chaos that followed. The accident occurred when a woman identified as 29-year-old Maani Pawar accidentally pressed the accelerator during a pooja ritual meant to mark the auspicious beginning of her new car’s journey.
According to reports, Pawar had purchased the Thar earlier that day and, as per tradition, was conducting a lemon-crushing ritual under the vehicle’s tyre. However, things went wrong when instead of carefully rolling the vehicle, she mistakenly pressed down on the accelerator pedal. The sudden thrust caused the powerful SUV to smash through the showroom’s glass partition and plunge from the first floor onto the road below.

Videos from the scene showed the overturned black Thar lying on the pavement, surrounded by shattered glass and debris. Another video captured the panic-stricken reactions of bystanders as chaos unfolded on the busy street outside. Eyewitnesses said that the impact also damaged a motorcycle parked near the showroom.
Inside the vehicle, along with Pawar, was a showroom employee named Vikas, who had been assisting her at the time of the incident. Both were seated in the front seats when the SUV broke through the showroom wall and crashed onto the pavement below. Fortunately, the airbags deployed instantly, cushioning the impact and preventing serious injuries. Quick-thinking staff and bystanders rushed the duo to Malik Hospital nearby, where they were treated for minor injuries and discharged shortly after receiving first aid.
Police officials later confirmed that no lives were lost in the accident. An officer stated that the crash was a result of the owner’s accidental pressing of the accelerator and that no negligence beyond the mishap was suspected. As no one filed an official complaint, the matter was not taken further. Authorities emphasized that the crash, though dramatic, had a lucky outcome given that the area was crowded and the fall from the showroom’s first floor could have been far more dangerous.
The woman’s ritual had been intended to ensure a safe journey with her new purchase, a tradition followed by many car buyers in India.
