Can Congress and AAP be friends? Ajay Maken, Sandeep Dikshit lead voices that say never

Congress Politicians Ajay Maken, and Sandeep Dikshit can never see AAP and Congress as Friends. Let’s find out why?

Congress Politicians Ajay Maken, Sandeep Dikshit strongly believe that AAP and Congress can never be friends.

Aam Aadmi Party and Congress have never really seen eye-to-eye, but lately they have been on the same side when AAP is fighting against the Centre’s ordinance.

What is this ordinance by the Centre?

The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Ordinance, 2023 was tabled in the Parliament as a means to bring the services of Delhi under the Centre.

The ordinance wants to “provide for a comprehensive scheme of administration of services” which “balances the local and domestic interests of the people of Delhi with the democratic will of the entire nation reflected through the President of India”.

The AAP Appeal

After the ordinance was tabled, Arvind Kejriwal has been making appeals to all non-BJP parties to stand in support of them and defeat the ordinance. Congress has been deliberating if it should support AAP and if sources are to be believed, Congress will lend its support to AAP.

This support of Congress in itself is a huge win for AAP as Congress is a leading opposition party today. And at the end of the day, they are fighting the same power- BJP.

But, some say that there is no possibility of a friendship between these two parties.

Ajay Maken, the general secretary of the All India Congress Committee says-

“He (Kejriwal) conveniently downplays his true intentions. Investigations into scandals like Liquor gate, ‘Sheesh-mahal (Kejriwal’s Rs 171-crore residence…), power subsidy scam, bus purchases scam and others, will reveal the extent of corruption within his administration. And this is what he wants to stop.”

Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit, stated “Any Congressman will be chucked out of the party if they make any statement against its national leadership. Then how can the party think of allying with the AAP, whose leader Kejriwal has made more vile statements against the Congress’s national leadership than even PM Modi?”

As many Congress leaders have stayed strong in the criticism of Kejriwal, it is highly unlikely that the AAP- Congress partnership will happen anytime soon. But, with politics- you never know!
