Bengaluru Airport Staff Accused of Groping South Korean Tourist During Security Check, Arrested After CCTV Review

A staff member at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport has been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a South Korean tourist under the pretext of a security inspection. The incident, which occurred on January 19, 2026, has raised serious concerns about passenger safety and misuse of authority at major transit hubs.

According to the Kempegowda International Airport Police, the woman had arrived at the airport to board a flight to South Korea. After completing immigration formalities, she was allegedly approached by an airport staffer who claimed to be conducting routine checks.

Incident Occurred After Immigration Clearance

Police said the accused staff member, identified as Affaann Ahmed, approached the woman under the guise of checking her flight ticket and check-in baggage. During the interaction, he reportedly claimed that a beeping sound was coming from her bag.

In an official statement, airport police said the accused told the woman that further inspection was necessary and that a detailed check at the counter could delay her flight. Using this as a pretext, he allegedly asked her to move to a different location for a personal check.

Taken to Isolated Area Under False Pretence

According to the FIR, the accused led the woman near the men’s washroom area, stating that a separate inspection was required. Police confirmed that the act was carried out away from public view and under the false claim of security protocol.

The complaint alleges that during this so-called inspection, the accused touched the woman inappropriately, including her chest and private parts. He is also accused of hugging her from behind without her consent.

When the woman resisted and objected to his actions, the accused reportedly disengaged and walked away, allegedly saying, “Okay, thank you,” before leaving the area.

Victim Reported the Incident Immediately

The South Korean tourist immediately approached airport security personnel and reported the incident. Acting swiftly, security staff detained the accused and handed him over to the airport police for further action.

“The woman complained to the airport security staff, who immediately detained the accused and handed him over to the airport police,” officials said.

CCTV Footage Corroborates Complaint

Investigators reviewed CCTV footage from the airport premises, which they say confirmed the sequence of events described by the complainant. Police stated that the footage supported the woman’s allegations and played a key role in the arrest.

“The CCTV footage confirmed the same,” airport police noted in their statement.

Legal Action and Charges Filed

Based on the complaint and available evidence, the Kempegowda Airport Police registered a case against the accused under Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with sexual harassment.

“The accused has been arrested and investigation is underway,” police confirmed, adding that further inquiries will determine whether there were any lapses in airport security procedures.

Broader Safety Concerns Raised

The case has sparked renewed discussions around passenger safety, especially for foreign nationals and women travelers. Authorities have reiterated that airport staff are not authorized to conduct personal checks outside designated security zones and that any such inspections must follow strict protocols.

Officials have urged passengers to immediately report suspicious behavior and assured that strict action will be taken against anyone misusing their position.

The investigation remains ongoing.
