22 Pakistani Women in Moradabad Raise Concerns After Giving Birth to 95 India-Born Children

22 Pakistani women on long-term visas gave birth to 95 Indian children in Moradabad, UP, raising security concerns post-Pahalgam terror attack.

Over 90 India-Born Children to 22 Pakistani Women Living in UP’s Moradabad Sparks National Security Concerns Amid Tightened Visa Rules

The heightened sense of security since the Pahalgam terrorist attack has brought into dangerous focus the existence of 22 Pakistani women residing in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. These women, all on long-term visas (LTVs), gave birth to an astonishing 95 children here in India, while retaining their Pakistani citizenship. Given that their children were born on Indian soil, they have acquired Indian nationality, which creates a dilemma of identity between foreign origin and Indian identity.

It has been confirmed by local authorities that these women had been residing for several years in Moradabad, and the earliest arrivals have been there for decades and the latest arrivals for about four years. Today, nearly 35 percent of them are grandmothers, showing that their family’s growth is vastly expanded through time. Adding their children and grandchildren, the number of individuals linked to these 22 women has gone beyond 500.

This issue has triggered a multi-agency investigation. Police are not only verifying the citizenship applications submitted by these women but also tracking the employment and social affiliations of their 95 India-born children. Especially, they are keen on watching for any ongoing communication or relationship with Pakistan-based relatives.

These women hold government-issued identification like Aadhaar and ration cards and, therefore, are able to benefit from welfare schemes. However, they have, so far, not received Indian citizenship, which they say they have applied for. The implications of this situation, where foreign nationals linked to Pakistan give birth to Indian citizens, are now being investigated.

Ranvijay Singh Kumar, Superintendent of Police (City) Moradabad, stated that data-gathering is currently in full swing. Local police and intelligence teams are in coordination to ensure that there are no illegal entries in the region. They will review ration card use, visa renewals, family sizes, and any suspected connections abroad as part of their investigation.

The MHA is also taking a hard line on the issue.-The Pakistani nationals living in India on LTVs and yet to obtain citizenship have been told to reapply for their visas. This is a crucial window from May 10 to July 10. Noncompliance will automatically lead to cancellation of their visas.

This series of events stems from the recent massacre in Pahalgam last month that took 26 lives. The Indian government responded by tightening immigration and visa rules. A special mention was made that all those Pakistani nationals issued short discretionary permits were asked to leave within 48 hours of announcing this new rule. Additionally, travel restrictions have been placed stopping the entry of new Pakistani nationals to India.

This matter of Moradabad now reaches beyond the local scene and brings forth national debate about internal security, immigration regulations, as well as dealing with foreign nationals living in India. Never more thinly shall humanitarian considerations stand against national security.
