Thar vs Wrangler: Brand new Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Jeep Wrangler
Thar vs Wrangler: Mahindra has now introduced a four-door version of the Thar, called the Roxx, adding much-needed practicality to its Jeep Wrangler-inspired model.
Thar vs Wrangler: Price Comparison between Mahindra Thar Roxx and Jeep Wrangler
Mahindra has recently introduced the 5-door variant of the Thar, known as Mahindra Thar Roxx. Because of its extended wheelbase, the Thar Roxx now resembles the Jeep Wrangler more closely and can accommodate the same number of passengers. Ever since Mahindra started teasing the Thar Roxx, car enthusiasts have been making comparisons with the Wrangler.
Engine & Transmission
In terms of mechanics, the Thar Roxx provides greater choices compared to the Wrangler, which prioritizes performance. Although the engines of the Thar Roxx may seem less potent compared to the Wrangler’s 270 PS power, they are still highly capable for tasks like intense off-roading. One significant distinction is that the Thar Roxx provides a 4X4 drivetrain solely with a diesel engine, whereas the Wrangler has it available with a petrol engine. Additionally, Roxx’s suspension system is quite mild, offering extra comfort for city driving. In contrast, the Wrangler does not have front-independent suspension like the Thar Roxx and is among the few SUVs with solid axles at the front and rear.
Features comparison
Regarding features, both the Thar Roxx and Wrangler come with plenty of equipment. The Mahindra Thar Roxx comes with the latest convenience features like a high-quality sound system, wireless charger, a chilled glove compartment, and a spacious panoramic sunroof to let in ample light and fresh air. Although the Wrangler does not have a panoramic sunroof, its roof and doors are removable to provide optimal openness and adventure. Additionally, it includes heated seats and steering wheel, making it beneficial in chilly forests or snow-covered areas. Additionally, the front-facing camera can capture your off-road adventures in high quality.
Price Difference
Currently, Mahindra has not disclosed the prices for the 4X4 versions of the Thar Roxx, but it is anticipated to be approximately Rs. 2 lakh costlier compared to the rear-wheel drive versions. Although priced at 22.49 lakh ex-showroom, the Thar Roxx is significantly more affordable than the Jeep Wrangler. The cost of the Jeep Wrangler is Rs.67 lakh and 65 thousand ex-showroom.

Comparison of dimensions
Examining their sizes, it is evident that the Jeep Wrangler is notably bigger than the Mahindra Thar Roxx. With an additional 439 mm in length, 61 mm in width, and a wheelbase that is 157 mm longer, the Wrangler can better accommodate five adults compared to the Thar Roxx. Additionally, despite being 59 mm taller than the Thar Roxx, the Wrangler offers better stability for off-roading thanks to its lower height. In addition, the ground clearance of 235 mm is almost comparable to that of the Wrangler’s.
Overview
The Mahindra Thar Roxx strikes a perfect balance between hardcore off-roading capabilities and everyday family SUV comfort, thanks to its abundance of upmarket features and spacious design. The Thar is considered legendary in India while the Wrangler is a top off-roading contender worldwide. Roxx is a superior urban cruiser compared to the Jeep Wrangler. In general, it offers excellent value for the price.
