Actor Imran Khan Asked To Leave India After CJP Mumbai Protest: Aamir Khan’s Nephew Gets October 28 Deadline Amid Citizenship Controversy

Bollywood actor Imran Khan has made headlines after Mumbai Police reportedly directed him to leave India by October 28, 2026. The development comes days after he participated in a protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in Mumbai. The actor, known for films such as Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and Delhi Belly, is also the nephew of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan.

According to media reports published on October 15, authorities issued a notice concerning his participation in the demonstration, citing his status as a non-Indian citizen. The incident has attracted attention because it involves a well-known actor, immigration rules and a politically sensitive protest.

Why Has Imran Khan Been Asked To Leave India?

According to reports, Mumbai Police issued a Leave India Notice to Imran Khan, directing him to leave the country by October 28. The action reportedly followed his participation in a demonstration at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan on October 10.

Police stated that action had been taken under the relevant provisions of immigration law because the actor participated in the protest despite not being an Indian citizen.

Reports indicate that Imran Khan holds US citizenship and an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card rather than full Indian citizenship. OCI status provides certain privileges to people of Indian origin, but it does not confer Indian citizenship.

The notice has brought renewed attention to the rules governing foreign nationals and OCI cardholders who participate in political demonstrations in India. The precise legal implications and any further proceedings will depend on the applicable provisions and the authorities’ actions.

What Happened During the CJP Mumbai Protest?

The CJP Mumbai protest took place at August Kranti Maidan on October 10, 2026. The demonstration was directed against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, with participants demanding his resignation.

The Cockroach Janta Party, known as CJP, has organised protests around political and electoral issues. Its demonstrations have drawn public attention amid wider debates over electoral rolls and the Election Commission’s procedures.

Imran Khan was among those present at the Mumbai gathering. His partner, actor Lekha Washington, and his cousin Zayne Marie Khan also reportedly attended the demonstration.

Police detained the three during the protest and subsequently released them. Imran’s presence at the event became a major talking point after reports emerged that authorities had asked him to leave India.

The incident has also raised questions about the distinction between attending a demonstration and the legal restrictions that may apply to people who are not Indian citizens.
