India Mocks Pakistan At UN Over Kashmir Remarks, Imran Khan Jailing and Lifetime Immunity to Asim Munir
India strongly criticised Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council, accusing it of misusing international platforms to push a hostile and divisive agenda against New Delhi. During the UNSC Open Debate on “Leadership for Peace,” India’s Permanent Representative to the UN delivered a sharp rebuttal to Pakistan’s remarks, particularly its repeated references to Jammu and Kashmir.
The exchange once again highlighted the deep and ongoing strain in India-Pakistan relations, with New Delhi signalling that it would firmly counter any attempt by Islamabad to internationalise bilateral issues.
Objection to Kashmir References at the UN
India objected strongly to Pakistan’s mention of Jammu and Kashmir at the Security Council, calling it “unwarranted” and reflective of Islamabad’s long-standing obsession with targeting India. The Indian envoy reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir is an internal matter and that Pakistan has no standing to raise the issue at multilateral forums.
India has consistently maintained that the matter was settled bilaterally under the Simla Agreement and later reaffirmed through the Lahore Declaration, leaving no scope for international mediation.
Questioning Pakistan’s Role at the Security Council
In a pointed remark, India questioned whether a country that repeatedly raises bilateral disputes in multilateral forums can responsibly discharge its duties as a non-permanent member of the Security Council.
The Indian representative stated that a serving non-permanent UNSC member that chooses to use every UN platform to pursue a divisive agenda cannot be expected to uphold the principles and obligations outlined in the UN Charter. The comment was widely seen as a direct critique of Pakistan’s diplomatic conduct at the UN.
India Mocks Pakistan At UN Over Democratic Backsliding
India also took aim at Pakistan’s internal political situation, openly questioning its democratic credentials. The envoy referred to the jailing of former prime minister Imran Khan, the banning of his political party, and the alleged role of Pakistan’s military establishment in reshaping constitutional provisions.
In a sharp remark, India highlighted what it described as Pakistan’s “unique way” of respecting the will of its people. The statement pointed to constitutional changes that allegedly granted lifetime immunity to military leadership, including Army Chief Asim Munir, raising concerns about civilian governance and military dominance.

Terrorism and India’s Security Concerns
Reaffirming its long-standing position, India accused Pakistan of being a global epicentre of terrorism. The Indian envoy reminded the Security Council of decades of Pakistan-sponsored terror attacks that have targeted Indian civilians and security forces.
India cited major incidents including the 2001 Parliament attack, the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, the 2016 Uri attack, and the 2019 Pulwama bombing. The most recent reference was to the Pahalgam attack in April 2025, in which 26 civilians were killed in what India described as religion-based targeted violence by Pakistan-backed terrorists.
Indus Waters Treaty and India’s Stand
Addressing Pakistan’s concerns over the Indus Waters Treaty, India stated that it entered into the agreement 65 years ago in good faith and in a spirit of friendship. However, India argued that Pakistan repeatedly violated the spirit of the treaty by waging wars and sponsoring terrorism.
India made it clear that its decision to hold the treaty in abeyance was directly linked to Pakistan’s failure to credibly and irrevocably end support for cross-border terrorism. The envoy stressed that national security considerations could not be separated from cooperative agreements.
Firm Warning on Cross-Border Terrorism
India reiterated that it would continue to respond decisively to terrorism in all its forms. The Indian representative stated that New Delhi would counter Pakistan-sponsored terrorism with full resolve and would not hesitate to protect its citizens and sovereignty.
This firm stance aligns with India’s broader diplomatic strategy of calling out terrorism at international platforms while resisting efforts to divert attention through political narratives.
A Reflection of Ongoing Diplomatic Strain
Tuesday’s exchange at the UNSC reflects the persistent tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. While Pakistan continues to raise the Kashmir issue globally, India has remained steadfast in pushing back and redirecting attention toward Pakistan’s internal governance challenges and terror record.
The sharp remarks made during the debate underline India’s intent to confront Pakistan diplomatically and prevent the misuse of global institutions. As relations remain strained, such exchanges are likely to continue, reinforcing India’s message that peace cannot coexist with terrorism or political double standards.
