Luthra Brothers Deported To India After Goa Nightclub Fire Killed 25, Court Proceedings to Follow
In a major development in the investigation into the deadly Goa Nightclub fire, owners Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra have been deported to India from Thailand. The brothers, who owned the nightclub where a massive blaze claimed 25 lives, were brought back on an IndiGo flight and are expected to face legal proceedings immediately upon arrival.
Visuals accessed by authorities showed the Luthra brothers boarding an IndiGo flight from Thailand, marking the end of their brief attempt to evade Indian law enforcement. The flight was scheduled to land in India at 1:45 pm IST, after which the duo would be produced before the Patiala House Court in Delhi.
Transit Remand and Legal Proceedings
Following their arrival, officials are set to seek transit remand for the Luthra brothers. A case of culpable homicide and criminal negligence has already been registered against them in connection with the tragic fire at the Goa Nightclub.
Investigators allege that the brothers fled the country within hours of the incident, raising serious questions about their intent and awareness of the scale of the tragedy.
How the Luthra Brothers Fled India
According to the investigation, Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra were allegedly attending a wedding in Delhi when news of the fire reached them. Realizing the potential legal consequences, the brothers reportedly contacted their office in Delhi’s Model Town and instructed staff to urgently book flight tickets.
They then rushed to their residence, collected important documents, and boarded a flight to Phuket, Thailand, just hours after the fire. Their sudden departure triggered a nationwide search, with Indian authorities coordinating with international agencies to trace their whereabouts.
Detention in Thailand
The brothers’ escape came to an end on December 11, when they were detained by Thai authorities. Sources revealed that the Luthra brothers had stepped out of their hotel in Thailand for a meal — a move that led to their identification.
Thai authorities verified their travel documents and identities after learning that the duo was wanted by Indian police. Following verification, formal deportation proceedings were initiated, leading to their return to India.

What Happened at the Goa Nightclub
The tragedy occurred earlier this month during a musical event at the Goa Nightclub, which quickly turned into a death trap. Videos from the scene show flames rapidly spreading across the ceiling, accompanied by thick smoke that trapped attendees inside.
One widely circulated video shows a performer dancing to the song “Mehbooba Mehbooba” when the first signs of fire appear overhead. Within moments, the situation spiraled out of control, leaving little chance for escape.
Safety Violations Turned Venue Into Tinderbox
Preliminary investigations have revealed shocking lapses in safety measures at the nightclub. Officials confirmed that the venue had:
-
No emergency exit
-
No functional fire extinguishers
-
No fire alarms or warning systems
-
A narrow access road that prevented fire engines from reaching the site
Despite repeated warnings from authorities, the club management allegedly failed to address these violations. The club was also operating without proper licenses and permissions, according to the FIR.
Arrests So Far in the Case
So far, four staff members, including the nightclub manager, have been arrested. Officials from various government departments involved in issuing permits and licenses have also been summoned for questioning.
Another co-owner, Ajay Gupta, was arrested in Delhi. Though Gupta initially claimed to be a “silent partner,” investigators found that he was actively involved in the club’s operations.
Gupta had left Goa for Delhi shortly after the incident. Upon arrival, his phone was switched off, and a lookout circular was issued. Police eventually traced him to a hospital in Delhi, where he had allegedly admitted himself to evade arrest.
A Case That Has Shaken Goa
The Goa Nightclub tragedy has sparked widespread outrage and renewed debate over safety regulations in entertainment venues across India. Families of victims continue to demand accountability, while authorities face pressure to ensure stricter enforcement of fire and safety norms.
With the Luthra Brothers Deported To India, investigators believe the case has reached a crucial stage. Their questioning is expected to shed more light on the sequence of events, decision-making failures, and responsibility for one of Goa’s deadliest nightlife disasters.
As the legal process unfolds, the tragedy stands as a grim reminder of the cost of negligence — and the importance of safety over profit.
