Tragedy Strikes Again: Gujarat Bridge Collapse Kills 9, Sparks Probe and Public Outrage
Gujarat Bridge Collapse Claims 9 Lives, CM Orders Immediate Probe
Five vehicles plunged into the Mahisagar River in Padra Vadodara district during the morning rush hour when a section of a Gujarat bridge collapse killing at least nine people. An autorickshaw, a pickup van, an SUV and two trucks all fell into the river in the horrifying scene. On social media powerful images of a tanker left dangling from the broken bridge went viral igniting national indignation and sorrow.
Rescue Operations Underway
Superintendent Rohan Anand of the Vadodara (rural) police department reported that nine bodies and ten people had been rescued thus far. Authorities were concerned that as the search and rescue efforts proceeded the number of fatalities might increase.
Residents, police officers, fire department teams and district administration representatives from Vadodara participated in the rescue efforts. Five individuals were promptly rescued and taken to medical facilities.
Cause of Collapse Under Investigation
As the search proceeded cranes were used to recover submerged vehicles. An official stated that the incident may have been caused by the bridge’s poor maintenance and deteriorating state.
CM Bhupendra Patel Orders Technical Probe
After sending a team of technical experts to the scene Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel ordered an investigation into the collapse. I have instructed the Roads and Buildings Department to look into this accident right away. dots. I have directed a group of two private engineers with expertise in bridge construction, the Chief Engineer for Design and the Chief Engineer for South Gujarat to come to the site immediately to look into the cause of the bridge collapse and provide an initial technical report he posted on social media.

Fire Department, NDRF Join Relief Efforts
He stated that rescue and relief efforts were in progress and that fire department teams from the Vadodara Municipal Corporation and the local municipality armed with boats and divers were present at the scene. A team from the National Disaster Response Force has also arrived at the scene and joined the rescue operations according to Patel.
A Grim Reminder of Past Tragedy
Built in 1985 the bridge was a vital connection between the districts of Anand and Vadodara. At least 135 people lost their lives in October 2022 when a bridge collapsed in Morbi Gujarat.
