Indian Army Foils Pakistan’s Missile and Drone Attack on Golden Temple After Precision Strikes in Operation Sindoor

The Indian Army had thwarted the most significant air assault launched against the Golden Temple in Amritsar as tensions escalated between India and Pakistan. The attack was in preparation by Pakistan on May 8, the day after India launched Operation Sindoor, a high-precision counterterrorism operation that targeted terrorist infrastructure across the border.

According to Indian Army officials, under Major General Kartik C Seshadri, GOC 15 Infantry Division, intelligence reports indicated that attacks by Pakistan would be on military establishments and civilian and religious landmarks like the Golden Temple. The Golden Temple is one of the holiest sites for Sikhs, and the report suggested that the Pakistan army had planned on making the Golden Temple the main target of drone and missile attack.

In the early hours of May 8, Pakistan launched a major aerial assault involving drones, long-range missiles, and other unmanned aerial weapons. Despite its scale, Indian air defence units, staying vigilant and well-prepared, responded immediately. Major General Seshadri confirmed that every incoming threat was neutralised mid-air, and thus the sanctity and safety of the Golden Temple remained intact.

Major General Seshadri said the thrust of the Indian operation was to wipe out terror infrastructure while avoiding civilian or military establishment within Pakistan. This precision strike strategy plainly demonstrated India’s military capability, and resolve for ethical warfare, albeit in revenge.

Slowly now, May 8, and over the next few days till May 10, Pakistan would attempt cross-border attacks using drones and missiles, but the Indian defence forces would hold their positions. The Indian air defence systems proved very successful in neutralizing several UAVs and loitering munitions during this confrontation.

After four days of tensions and failed Pakistani operations, both countries reached an understanding on May 10 to cease hostilities. The preparedness and precision of the Indian Army not only protected important religious and civilian sites but also sent clear messages regarding this country’s resolve against cross-border terrorism.
