MS Dhoni Hints at Retirement, Says ‘Nothing to Decide Now’

After the recent win against KKR, post match conference, three times world cup winning Indian captain MS Dhoni once again had to come up with response about his retirement from IPL that has been a headline these days of media channels saying. The ‘as of now,’ meant that the boy had nothing to decide for the time being that is there being no ambitions about his future life yet. This latest comment has again created a great deal of anticipation from the fans and critics about the future of the 43-year-old sensation.

Dhoni also feels the love which he gets from his fans, knowing that many think every match could be the last game of his career. He also explained that at the present, he has his eye set on the IPL seasons that are being played at the current time. However, he also mentioned about there could be one critical stage of introspection once the tournament is over. ‘It is a two month period and after that you have to slog for another 6-8 months and then only you can see whether the body is ready to take the pressure or not,’ replied Dhoni adding that his fitness will be a key factor in his playing the league.

This approach is in consonant with what Dhoni always asserts, stressing on the necessity of his fitness anytime he wants to make any decision. He was operated for his knee in 2023 and since than he has been struggling to perform physically while this IPL season he has been even coming lower down the order. As DS stated earlier, the CSK head coach Stephen Fleming had also pointed this out, saying that Dhoni cannot occupy the crease for a long time anymore.

As we have seen, he faces with physical issues in a cricket field, however, CSK could benefit more from him than only his batting. This made him an essential part of the team because he was an experienced planner, a leader who can help teach the young talents in the team. This magnitude of presence in the field even as his playing days are almost done gives the team a cliquish stability in organization and direction.

The current performance of CSK’s in the ongoing IPL season brings the conversation to a new level. Although the team has not been consistent, they still reserve small chances of making the playoffs. Dhoni was quoted as saying that one should be “practical” and at the same time be looking for the right team combinations. Probably, he is also contemplating the team’s future in his decision.

The latest statement made by Dhoni does not clear up the situation, but it clearly indicates when one might expect the decision. The period of the next 6-8 months will determine whether he has the strength needed to play for another IPL season.
