Well, amid the last week too, the COVID cases remained to be souring. India crossed the mark of 4 lakh cases per day and now things are relying much on hopes. And amid that, there has been some good and bad news related to women. Women from sports, politics, entertainment, and media, all have found names in the news of the last week but the highlight of the week is undoubtedly been Mamata Banerjee, who has terrifically won the race of West Bengal elections. So, we thought of bringing the collection of all such news right on your table.

1. YUWA classes 2021 graduate, Seema Kumari, received a Harvard University scholarship.

Seema was enrolled in a YUWA School in 2012 in Jharkhand. This school essentially helps girls in the rural part of Jharkhand in the financially weaker sections. To pay her fees, Seema started serving as a football coach and got admitted to the Young Leaders Institute at Washington University in St. Louis for high school students in 2018. Now, she has received a Haward Scholarship, a proud moment for the girl who has stood against all odds.

2. “Situation in my country is critical” – Priyanka Chopra to Joe Biden urging for more vaccines for India

Priyanka Chopra took to her social media, expressing her love and prayers for the people at home, India. In her post, she urges US President, Joe Biden to assist India in getting through the disaster. Since “the situation in my country is serious,” she said, US government officials could afford to “share vaccines.”

3. Kirron Kher, an actor, and BJP MP pledged one crore rupees for the immediate purchase of ventilators for COVID-19 patients

BJP MP Kirron Kher also tweeted a letter addressed to Chandigarh’s Deputy Commissioner, Shri Mandeep Singh. “With hope and prayers in my heart, I am donating Rs. 1 crore from MPLADS to the PGI Chandigarh for the immediate purchase of ventilators for COVID-19 patients,” she tweeted. She will now redirect funds from the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) to pay for the above purchase at Chandigarh’s Postgraduate Institute Medical Education and Research (PGIMR).

4.Women’s Prize For Fiction 2021: Six Authors shortlisted

The prize’s longlist was published in March, and the winner will be announced on July 7. Bernardine Evaristo, Elizabeth Day, Vick Hope, Nesrine Malik, and Sarah-Jane Mee are among the judges for the Women’s Prize 2021.

5.Shooter Dadi passes away because of COVID

Chandro Tomar, best known as Shooter Dadi, died on April 30 as a result of COVID-19 complications. Shooter Dadi has been an iconic figure and was portrayed in the film, ‘Sand ki Aankh’. The women were the epitome of gender equality, womanhood and compassion and her loss is surely a vital loss.

6. Historic: Britain’s all Senior Diplomatic Posts Are Held By Women

Batteling to reduce the gender gap, for the very first time, Britain’s all the senior Diplomatic Posts are held by women. According to the UK Foreign Office, the number of female heads of purpose has tripled in the last decade, from 22 to over 60. The most senior jobs, on the other hand, have only been given to women in the last five years.

7.Mamata Banerjee wins the West Bengal Elections

Last but not the least, Mamata Banerjee, against all odds wins the Bengal elections. Mamata is the only women Chief Minister in India at present, and she has single-handedly beaten the part of popular interest, BJP. This win is a historic win, and Mamata Banerjee winning it is in itself an achievement. And not to forget, Mamata is the third time straight when Mamata has won the elections in West Bengal.
