Just after an all-party meeting at the Assembly, Speaker Biman Banerjee said that the Centre’s step-motherly attitude towards the state would be discussed during the special session.

The House will also be discussing another resolution, which would be on the spread of dengue as proposed by the opposition parties in the Assembly, the Speaker mentioned.

The GST bill will be ratified by at least 15 of the 29 state Assemblies, which the PM hoped would be done at the earliest.

Assam, Jharkhand and Bihar have already ratified the GST Bill. The Prime Minister also wants the GST to kick in from the month of April, 2017.

During all party meetings, the state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee apprised that the members about the state government’s proposal to further rename West Bengal as ‘Bengal’, the Speaker said.

Moreover, on August 2, the Cabinet has decided to rename the state as “Bengal” after its earlier proposal of the ‘Paschim Bango’, made in 2011 when Trinamool Congress took over power in the state, and then failed to get a green signal by the Centre.
