Israel Accepts Trump Ceasefire Proposal With Iran, Netanyahu Announces Peace Path

Today, in a key change in foreign policy, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came on record to announce that Israel has accepted the extended offer of a mutual ceasefire with Iran by U.S. President Donald Trump . This announcement came after serious negotiations and frequent military intervention of the two countries.

Ceasefire Terminologies and Organization-

President Trump declared the terms Monday evening, saying he demanded a complete and total ceasefire to be in effect within the next coming hours, asking both sides to stop attacking. Israeli government agreed when it felt that it had accomplished all the pertinent military goals I.e. deactivating the nuclear and ballistic-missile capabilities of Iran
The statement of Netanyahu dwelt upon the U.S. help in protecting Israel and destroying the Iranian nuclear threat, and on the retaliation of Israel against such a violation, which would be “forceful.”

U.S. Third Part Diplomacy-

Attribution of the coordination of diplomatic efforts was confirmed by the White House: as Trump was talking to Netanyahu, special envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the Vice President J.D. В boe took up the Iranian officials.
Trump also recognized Qatari and its Emir who contributed through mediation assistance in getting Iran to concede.

War History, Origins and Provocation-

The scene to this ceasefire involves a 12-day war. On June 22, the U.S. reported hitting Iran nuclear facilities with B-2 bombers equipped with huge bunker-busters and the targets involved fordow, natanz, and isfahan installation.  Iran responded by launching ballistic missiles, which hit an American air base in Qatar: no deaths were reported, but it was damaged. As a counter-reaction, Iran launched salvoes of missiles on Israel with some hits in Beit Shean killing a few civilians as the truce was declared

Fragility of the Truce

Reports indicate that the ceasefire was in trouble right from the beginning:
• Iranian missiles fell into Israeli residential neighborhoods within hours of the commencement of the ceasefire, killing several civilians.
• Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz ordered an immediate retaliation, striking Tehran, claiming Iran was in breach of ceasefire.
• Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi countered that there was no formal ceasefire, stating that Iran’s position was conditional on Israeli stopping hostilities by 4 a.m. Tehran time.

European & Global Reaction-

• Oil markets reacted fast on the ceasefire announcement and tentative calm, easing prices as concerns surrounding disruption in the Strait of Hormuz calmed.
• The ceasefire with global leaders, including Germany’s Chancellor Merz, congratulating implementation of the truce call at the NATO summit.

Summary

Israel has officially accepted Trump’s ceasefire agreement with Netanyahu declaring mission success and cooperative cessation of hostilities. However, the agreement still has clearly tenuous turned out and unstable. Iran’s response has been mixed and the missile fire has already broken the truce. Both sides have agreed will cease strike if opposed side invades terms.

In this moment, there exists an opportunity for diplomatic de-escalation but this requires both parties to respect the agreement and refrain from a gross violation of the agreement going forward.
