The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is an international cricket tournament that takes place every two years. The T20 World cup winners are some of the best teams in cricket who have proved their worth by winning these tournaments. The tournament is organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and features the top national teams from around the world competing in the sport’s shortest format. The tournament’s first edition was held in South Africa in 2007, and since then, it has become one of the most prestigious events in the cricketing calendar. 

Cricket is not just a sport, but an emotion. And T20 is one of the most anticipated events for fans. 

Over the years, some teams have emerged as dominant forces in the tournament, while others have struggled to make an impact.

Here is a list of T20 World Cup winners from 2007 to 2022:

  • 2007 – India

The inaugural T20 World Cup was won by India, who defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in a thrilling final. The tournament was notable for the emergence of new stars such as Yuvraj Singh and Irfan Pathan, who played key roles in India’s success.

  • 2009 – Pakistan

Pakistan won the second edition of the T20 World Cup, which was held in England. The team was led by Younis Khan and featured a number of talented players such as Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Aamer.

  • 2010 – England

England won the third T20 World Cup, which was held in the West Indies. The team was led by Paul Collingwood and featured some of the country’s best T20 players such as Kevin Pietersen and Graeme Swann.

  • 2012 – West Indies

The West Indies won the fourth T20 World Cup, which was also held in Sri Lanka. The team was led by Darren Sammy and featured star players such as Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels.

  • 2014 – Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka won the fifth T20 World Cup, which was held in Bangladesh. The team was led by Lasith Malinga and featured some of the country’s best T20 players such as Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene.

  • 2016 – West Indies

The West Indies won their second T20 World Cup in 2016, which was held in India. The team was led by Darren Sammy and featured star players such as Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, and Carlos Brathwaite.

  • 2021 – Australia

The 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup was the seventh edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, held in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. It was won by Australia and stars like Aaron Finch (captain), David Warner and Steve Smith were also a part of the win. 

  • 2022- England

The latest edition of the T20 was held last year in Australia and was won by England. This made it their second win so far, and they had to beat Pakistan to get this title. 

Up to 2022, a total of eight ICC Men’s T20 World Cup tournaments have been held, with 21 teams having competed in the tournament over the years. The West Indies and England are the only two teams that have managed to win the tournament on more than one occasion, with each team having won two titles.
