Indian cricket star Virat Kohli during Royal Challengers Bangalore's recent match against Chennai Super Kings was fined 10% of his match fee for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct.

RCB’s Virat Kohli punished for violating IPL code of conduct in match against CSK

In a match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, batter Virat Kohli has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for IPL’s Code Of Conduct violation.

A statement said that Virat Kohli had breached the rules under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct during the team’s eight-run loss to Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

However, the authority of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has not disclosed every detail about the incident, which triggered the code of conduct violation.

It has been reported that the former RCB skipper’s over-the-top celebration after CSK’s Shivam Dube’s dismissal off the bowling of Wayne Parnell was the main reason behind the fine.

The official statement of IPL said, “Batter Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct in TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

RCB now will be playing next at Mohali on April 20 against Punjab Kings.

Since the advisory did not explicitly reveal the reason behind the fine, it is assumed that after the dismissal of Shivam Dube who scored 52 runs off 26 balls, Virat Kohli’s aggressive celebrations were the cause for the violation.

It was RCB fast bowler Wayne Parnell who dismissed Dube during the match.

Meanwhile, in the match held on Monday, CSK, after being asked to bat first, were able to score a massive total of 226 for six, with Devon Conway (83 runs off 45 balls), and Shivam Dube (52 runs off 27) deliveries.

RCB managed to score 218 in response, for the loss of 8 wickets, falling short of the target by eight runs. The skipper Faf du Plessis (RCB) played an amazing game contributing 62 runs off 33 balls, while Glenn Maxwell scored 76 runs off 36 deliveries. Together they put up a 126-run partnership for the third wicket, which gave RCB a fighting chance for a remarkable win.

OTHERS WERE FINED TOO

In a similar case, spinner Hrithik Shokeen of Mumbai Indians was also fined for his celebrations and an on-field altercation with skipper Nitish Rana (Kolkata Knight Riders).

Earlier, Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their recent Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered two major blows when Sanju Samson, who is the captain of Rajasthan Royals, was fined ₹12 lakh. In an IPL 2023 match against Chennai Super Kings, Samson was fined after his side maintained a slow over rate.
