Moto 360: Keeping ‘Watch’

Motorola creates a buzz in the global market yet again by presenting the Moto 360 Smart watch. Its unique features include a 1.56 inch display protected by Gorilla Glass, a fancy IPS panel with auto-adjusting brightness and a cool feature where the display remains turned off until you turn your wrist towards your face to look at the watch. It is also lightweight and waterproof. What adds to the look of the watch is the excellent detailing given to it by the brushed metal finish, a leather strap, a big round dial with a button on the side which turns on other features like Google search, heart rate tracking, wireless charging, counting steps etc. Moto 360 includes seven pre-loaded watch faces and if you need to access more they are available at the Google’s Android Wear Marketplace.

The New Smart Watch from Motorola – Motorola 360

The Moto 360 assembles all your notifications in one place. All messages, WhatsApp and Facebook notifications, emails and updates when synced with an Android 4.3 or 4.4 smartphone are brought right to your wrists. These notifications can be accessed by tapping on the screen and removing it by swiping it away. The SMSs, WhatsApp and Facebook messages are stored with entire conversation threads. However, two apps cannot be accessed simultaneously, so if while browsing through your SMSs you receive a notification from Facebook, you will need to go back to the main page and access the app.

The voice recognition system has been reported as one of the weaker features of Moto 360. It also notifies you when you have an incoming call, however if you need to answer the call you will have to take your phone out and use it. Navigating through apps and ease of access still seems to be a problem in the Android Wear since it is still under process and will take time to update. Another limitation that disrupts the experience of Android Wear is its battery life. With the ambient light sensor mode on the maximum battery life with full utilization of the smartwatch was 17 hours. However, with ambient light sensor mode off a full day of battery can be availed. For charging all you need to do is to place the smartwatch on the wireless charger and it will begin charging.

Elegant design and functionality sets the 360 apart.

As an overall experience of the gadget, it seems one of a kind and does add convenience by helping you track your daily notifications without continually taking your phone out, entering the password (if you have one) to check every time your phone pings. The market price of the Moto 360 is Rs. 17,999 which is quite an amount to pay for a gadget such as this. However, for gadget enthusiasts this purchase might make sense. So go buy it if you feel the convenience of accessing your notifications at your wrists is something that you would enjoy.
