Agni 5, the longest range nuclear missile of India tested today.
India’s longest range nuclear capable missile, Agni 5 was tested at Kalam Island off the Odisha today and it was a successful test. It was tested by Defence Research and Development Organisation or DRDO.
According to reports, Agni 5 which is the newest addition in the Agni family has been through three trials before.
Notably, The Agni 5 missile has the new technology for navigation and guidance. And it will give India the strategic depth it needs to contain its enemies, say scientists.
As per reports, after a few more trials, it will soon join India’s military arsenal.
Notably, this will be the first test the of Agni -5 missile after India became member of the Missile Technology Control Regime.
The Regime is the group of 35-nation group to check the spread of unmanned delivery systems for nuclear weapons.

1. It has a range of over 5,000 km and can carry about a 1,000-kg warhead.
2. The missile has the capacity to target almost all of Asia including Pakistan and China and Europe.
3. According to reports, the 17-metre long Agni-5 Missile weighs about 50 tonnes and is a very agile and modern weapon system.
4. Agni 1,2,3 and 4 are already in the arsenal of India. Apart from it, India has a supersonic cruise missiles like Brahmos.
5 .India has described the Agni – 5 missile system as a ‘weapon of peace’ and according to reports, Agni 6 is in the early stage of development.
