UP police opts for twitter, to connect with people

The Uttar Pradesh police have taken to the social networking site, Twitter in order to reach out to people, hear their grievances and to further keep a tab on the action taken.

“With a view of having a better connect with people and to help them air any of their grievance and also to keep a tab on the action taken by the police, DGP Javeed Ahmad has further issued directives to all the police stations to open their twitter accounts,” a directive issued by the DGP said.

“The social media platform has become a very important and effective tool to further reach out to people and connect to them. Thus, it is the need of the hour to adopt such technology and used the platform,” Ahmed said.

In the circular which was issued to all district police chiefs, the DGP have asked them to open twitter accounts in the name of their concerned district police and to further configure it with respective CUG mobiles of the SPs. “The updates of the twitter thus will directly be monitored by the SPs and then they will be able to feel the pulse of citizens and keep a tab on activities of their juniors too”, it said.

For uniformity, the district police have also been asked to use the design and header used by @Uppolice, which now already have 40.3 K followers. Directive has been issued to set up social media cells in all the districts in order to monitor the platform and then give its feedback.

Twitter handle of @Uppolice, DGP and IG Lucknow zone A Satish Ganesh have already been popular on Twitter and people are not only posting their problems but are also getting solution through the platform.

Moreover, the handle is used to get a timely update good works done by the force to the people and also to media. The state police will also soon be organizing a training session to further familiarize the officials with social media and its benefits.
