Telangana Government to reward Sindhu

Telangana government has decided to give a cash prize of Rs 1 crore to the Indian star shuttler P.V. Sindhu for winning the silver medal at the Rio Olympics.

The cash prize would be presented by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to Sindhu after she returns from Olympics, official sources said on Friday.

Moreover, under the new sports policy which was announced by the state government early this year, a gold medalist in the Olympics is further entitled for cash prize of Rs 2 crore, whereas a silver medal winner gets Rs 1 crore. A bronze medalist will be getting Rs 50 lakh.

Chief Minister Rao has also congratulated the Hyderabadi girl for winning the silver medal. She has become the first Indian woman to win a silver glory and also the first Indian badminton player to achieve the feat. At 21, Sindhu is the youngest Indian to secure a victory.

In his message, the CM hailed Sindhu’s victory and has also described her as the pride of India, especially for Telangana.

T. Padma Rao, Sports minister has also met Sindhu in Rio and then congratulated her on her historic feat. He also congratulated her coach Pullela Gopichand.
