Metro needs 916 coaches to overcome overcrowding in metro:- Yes, that is very much true and evident that half of the population of Delhi travel from metro. Well, this is so because metro has become the integral part of our life. Metro has somewhere the best way to commute to different places, as it is less time consuming and even everyone can easily afford travelling from metro.

But, the main problem that people face in the metro is its ‘overcrowding’. Sometimes it becomes almost impossible for one to travel from it. But, now metro has taken a significant move in order to reduce the crowding in trains. Metro has approached the government making a case for the procurement of 916 coaches to tackle the 17.5% annual growth in ridership recorded over the last 5 years.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Report

According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, there has been continuous demands from all quarters, even from the highest authority Supreme Court that DMRC shall endeavor to run trains with the best possible frequency in order to meet the needs of the city’s public transport. Currently, Delhi Metro is running 1,396 coaches in its system and 916 coaches means a 65% increase in coaches.

On the other hand, in terms of trains the proposal has sought 102 new trains to add to the existing network of 227. As per latest reports, the augmentation is planned to be taken up from April 2017 to March 2021, after the approvals from the Delhi Government and Center. This project is expected to cost Rs 13,284 crore. Moreover, the upcoming step from Delhi Metro will be efficient and will definitely reduce the overcrowding. According to reports 17.5% additional commuters have been added to the ridership, each year.

Most populated Stations

Most populated corridors are line 3 (Dwarka Sector 21 and Noida Vaishali) and line 2 (Samaypur Badli to Huda City Centre).
