Good News! Monsoon to arrive two days earlier, says MET

Monsoon to hit Kerala by May 30

According to Indian Meteorological Department, Monsoon will hit Kerala by May 30, two days ahead of previous expectations. The department announced it on Tuesday giving further relief to a heavily agri- dependent economy, after forecasting that India would receive more rainfall this year than it did last year. Now, the other good news is that monsoon winds will hit the southern state two days ahead of the schedule.

As per reports, last week MET office had said that India is due to receive a normal monsoon and more rainfall than the last year. This year India is expected to receive rainfall upto 96 percent.

Indian Meteorological Department defines 96 %- 104% rains of the long period has normal , that below 96% it is usually below normal, and below 90% is defined as deficient.

Currently, the whole North India is dealing with scorching heat. However, pre- monsoon showers have already hit certain dry areas in the southern part of India. Notably, the monsoon delivers about 70 percent of India’s rainfall, critical for crops such as rice, cotton, cane and corns because nearly half of the country’s farmland lacks irrigation.

Till the monsoon hits North India, it is important to take necessary precautions to protect yourself from boiling heat.

Here are few simple tricks to protect yourself from heat

  • Drink a lot of water
  • Add glucose or any energy powder in water
  • Eat cucumber, watermelon because it maintains your body temperature
  • Have vegetarian diet
  • Use sunscreen
  • Cover your face whenever you go out
