Delhi Government to soon launch ‘Good Samaritan Scheme’

The Delhi government will be soon be coming up with a ‘Good Samaritan Scheme’ under this scheme people will be rewarded for their help in the form of taking the road accident victims to hospital.

The move comes after a security guard died, Matibul, was on the road after being hit by a tempo in West Delhi on Wednesday morning.

Satyendar Jain the Delhi Home Minister on Thursday has said that, the government has further prepared a draft of the scheme under which, an appropriate incentive will be announced for all of them who offer immediate help to the road accident victims.

The draft would be tabled before the Cabinet by this month’s end and then it then be sent to Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung seeking his approval. The government will also further provide legal aid to these people in case they would face any trouble or are “harassed” by the police.

Many activists for long have been, advocating for awareness and suggesting simpler procedures when rushing an accident victim to hospital, but nothing has changed even after the Supreme Court order.

Saji Cherian, director, operations, of SaveLIFE Foundation, which had also actively campaigned for protection of the Good Samaritans, said that, “There is a need to make people aware and the further the government needs to make more efforts.”
