Army orders probe after Mehbooba demanded strict: Kashmir firing

After the death of two youths during an alleged firing by soldiers in Handwara Jammu & Kashmir, army has ordered an inquiry in the matter as J-K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said such incidents have a negative impact on the state government’s effort to build peace.

The decision of the enquiry was announced by Lt Gen DS Hooda, as the CM has called him to ascertain the situation on the ground, and he assured that a concrete action will be taken once the probe is completed.

Mehbooba has expressed solidarity with the families of the two youths, and has ordered that the security personnel involved in the killing would get exemplary punishment as these incidents cannot be tolerated. And the demands of the locals will be look after by the army officials in Handwara for shifting a military bunker.

As per J& k police, an alleged incident of misbehavior/molestation by an army man took place in Handwara. “Within minutes, public in large numbers gathered there and attacked the army bunker in Handwara chowk. They assaulted the personnel deployed there, ransacked the bunker and attempted to set fire to the bunker,” a police spokesperson said.

In reprisal, the security officials used force to disperse the violent rampaging mob and two people –Mohammad Iqbal and Nayeem Qadir Bhat — were killed. A criminal case has been registered to inquire the facts in Handwara Police station.
