Five million French people including one out of every two young people played an instrument in 1982 according to a study on the country’s cultural customs. Fleuret founded the Fête de la Musique or World Music Day in Paris on the Summer Solstice with Jack Lang. Over 1000 musicians took part in the special event performing throughout the city.
